Machine Learning Department
The Machine Learning Department (MLD) is a division of the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, and focuses on research in the areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, and data mining.
Established in 1997 by Tom M. Mitchell as the Center for Automated Learning and Discovery [1], the Machine Learning Department was the first machine learning department at any university worldwide. In 2002, it launched the world's first PhD program in machine learning [2]. Such a program has continued to grow exponentially with each year.
The current Chair of the Machine Learning Department is Professor Roni Rosenfeld.
