From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Mackay & Partners is a London-based architecture and design practice. It was established in 2004 by architect Ken Mackay, previously co-founder with David Harper of Harper & Mackay. It works predominently in the leisure, hospitality, residential and workspace sectors.

Ken Mackay studied architecture at Canterbury Art College (1977-79). He then took a masters degree in environmental design and architecture at the Royal College of Art in London (1979-1981). He was Design Director at London architectural practice Dixon Jones BDP before setting up Harper & Mackay in 1987.

Hotels Among its best-known hospitality projects is Minories Hotel in the City of London, completed in 2014 for hotel chain Motel One and developer Endurance Land. The self-cleaning facade is of etched Corian, a translucent composite material made from acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate produced by DuPont. Before the Minories Hotel, Mackay & Partners worked on London's St Martins Lane Hotel (1999) with French designer Philippe Starck for hotelier Ian Schrager, on which the London practice was executive architect. It also took Schrager's subsequent Sanderson Hotel (2000)in London's Berners Street to planning stage.

Residential Mackay & Partners collaborated with Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola on interiors for the communal areas of Lincoln Square, a ten-storey building in London's Lincoln's Inn Fields. Overall architect on the residential scheme by developer Lodha Group is PLP Architecture.

Restaurants Ken Mackay was a founder Antonio Correia of Portuguese restaurant Portal (2005) in London's St John Street. He also designed the interiors for the restaurant and bar, which closed after some ten years in business.

Mackay & Partners designed the interiors of Vinoteca's Soho branch in London's Beak Street(20012). It has also remodelled Le Cafe du Marché off London's Charterhouse Square to incorporate the former La Rendezvous brasserie.

Workplace Working with Chicago architectural practice Murphy Jahn, Mackay & Partners created the interiors and facilities for 1200 staff at Swiss company Serono's international headquarters (2007) in Geneva Switzerland. By the time the campus was completed, Serono had sold a majority shareholding to pharmaceuticals giant Merck to form Merck Serono. The new company moved to Stuttgart, Germany in 2006 and Serono's previous owner Ernesto Bertarelli set up a biotechnology business incubator in the Geneva complex.
