Madhavi Menon

Madhavi Menon (b. 1971) is Professor of English at Ashoka University in Delhi NCR, India. Previously she was Professor of English at American University in Washington DC, and before that at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. Menon is a queer theorist and has written extensively on the subjects of desire, identity, and theory. Menon is also Director of the Centre for Studies in Gender and Sexuality at Ashoka University,[1] the first centre of its kind in India.

Menon's most recent book, Infinite Variety, has been described by Shohini Ghosh as "elegant, lucid and funny ... this book will appeal to as many readers as there are desires."[6] Historian of sexuality Saleem Kidwai has said of Infinite Variety that "deep insights are tinged with humour in this wide-ranging, thought-provoking exploration of pleasure and pain across time and regions."[6] Menon is currently at work on a book titled The Law of Desire, which looks at laws governing sexualities in India and around the world.
