Madinah Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (MILE) is an Executive Education institute located in the Madinah Knowledge Economic City (KEC),[1] Madinah, Saudi Arabia. It is a Corporate Social Responsibility Program of KEC, and supported by Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA).

MILE is the premier Executive Education Institute in the GCC region that has focused its efforts on equipping corporate leaders, senior executives and high level government officials coming from Middle East with latest leadership techniques and skills to compete with the rest of the world.

MILE is focused at building leadership and entrepreneurial excellence in the Muslim world. This non-profit institution has developed into an important centre of Executive Education in the Middle East with the passage of time. The MILE’s responsibility is to develop local intellectual capital in addition with leveraging a business model that ensures sustainable economic growth in the region. Similarly, this business model also offers relevant development opportunities to both present and future business leaders.

MILE, through its executive education programs, provide an opportunity to corporate business leaders, senior executives and high level government servants to expand their professional repertoire to perform successfully at a global level.

The history of the MILE dates back to 2008 when some of the top thought leaders in Middles East sat together to address the acute leadership deficit in the Middle East despite its commendable progress.[2] A brainstorming meeting was held in Dubai in the fall of the same year that was attended by academic and business leaders from Islamic Development Bank, Kenexa, McKinsey & Co., Leading Concepts and the Savola Group for conceiving the vision and shaping the strategy for the young organization and to align its operating model with global best practices prevalent in the field of executive education.

Since its inception, the institute has enjoyed a very close relationship with the corporate world. Many well-known corporate leaders have become its alumni members within a few years time. It is a non-profit organization that has grown into a collaborative initiative seeking collaboration and support from global business schools, management consulting organizations, academic professors and professional associations.

The Madinah Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship has been founded in the Madinah because this holy city is of great historic significance. It became the capital of first ever Islamic state established by Muhammad after his migration from Makkah to Madinah. However, the Madinah was not only the administrative headquarter of the Muslims, but it also served as a spiritual sanctuary for them.

Immediately after his migration, Muhammad built two mosques that are, Masjid Al Qubaa and Masjid Al Nabawi in this city. From these mosques, Muhammad spread the message of Islam to the nooks and corners of the world and with the passage of time, Madinah transformed into a true knowledge hub for people coming from across the globe.

Madinah is also the most visited place of worships for Muslims after Makkah. The city holds special importance in the heritage, life and hearts of more than one and a half billion Muslims as it was the most favorite city of Muhammad.

Madinah KEC[edit]

The Knowledge Economic City (KEC) was founded in 2006 by King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz. It was established to attract and develop leadership from around the globe in addition to projecting young Saudi entrepreneurs as internationally renowned and respected leaders. The Knowledge Economic City will provide a competitive environment to Saudi Arabia’s Information Technology industry and small business owners to express their abilities and excel at international level.[3]

Programs[edit]

MILE conducts many flagships and master programs from time to time. Programs for Advanced Leadership and Development (PALM) is organized twice a year for corporate leaders and senior executives. The program has been designed to equip senior leaders and executives in the areas such as business strategies and globalization, scenario planning and decision making, corporate governance, operational excellence, emotional intelligence, business ethics, customer centricity, corporate financial strategy and business simulations.

Another important flagship program is the High performance Governments (HPG). It is a leadership program for senior public and civil leaders and has been designed keeping in view the challenges faced by governments in OIC world. Corporate leaders and senior executives from Telecom industry can join another leadership program, the High Performance Telecom (HPT), to further sharpen their skills.

High Performance Healthcare Organizations (HPHO) is another leadership program for corporate leaders and senior executives working in the largest industry in the world that is, healthcare industry.[4] This program equips healthcare leaders to cope with the challenges this industry is facing at the moment.

MILE has designed small concise 2-day Classes for business leaders on a vast variety of topics that would interest a large number of audiences to help professionals in enhancing their leadership and managerial skills. As with all MILE programs, these classes combines top quality content delivered by world-class faculty to give an exceptional learning experience.

MILE is perhaps the leading Executive Education institute in the Middle East. MILE organizes various executive education programs (some of which are mentioned above) from time to time at its campus in Madinah as well as in partnership with corporate universities in Saudi Arabia and other countries. MILE provides participants exclusive access to online learning material such as live webinars as well as selected books, publications and reports about leadership. MILE also offers pre-program online assessments, executive 2.0 coaching and One-on-One psychometric assessment by TalentQ. All these methods help senior executives and corporate leaders to expand their professional repertoire.

Partnerships and Alliances[edit]

Over the years, MILE has signed many MoUs and agreements with various Executive Education Institutes and Universities both in Saudi Arabia and abroad. Some of these institutions include NUST Business School,[6][7] Islamabad, Pakistan, LUMS Business School, Lahore, Pakistan, Institute of Business Administration,IBA]],Karachi-8|[8] Karachi, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Human Resource Development Fund.

MILE has also launched an Executive MBA program, the first of its kind in the Middle East, in collaboration with Taibah University, Mandinah. These agreements and MoUs allow both parties to use each other’s infrastructure and platform to conduct various executive education programs for corporate leaders. MILE has also collaborated with World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) to arrange various programmes including 7th WIEF Roundtable[9] which was an extension of WIEF's Annual Forum.

MILE has also signed an MOU with Middle East Development Network (MDN), Istanbul. The MOU obliges MDN to be the marketing and institutional partner of MILE for High Performing Governments (HPG) program in Istanbul, Morocco and Jordan. MILE will also offer special offers, arrangements and incentives for the participants from MDN for attending various programs conducted by MILE in Madinah. The MoU further states that the President of MDN, Murat Daoudav will serve as the international ambassador of MILE whereas Dr. 3M will act as MILE’ representative in the relationship. The purpose of these partnership and alliances is to promote executive education and to provide an opportunity to aspiring leaders of Muslim countries to express prove their mettle.

MILE has also conducts various types of case studies in collaboration with prestigious consulting organisations and academic institutions.[10] In addition, MILE has also established strategic relationship with various Executive Education and Leadership Development institute such as Leadership Through Experience International.[11] Similarly, Islamic Finance Advisory and Assurance (IFAAS) Services also became the Networking Partner of MILE for sixth Programme for Advanced Leadership and Management (PALM) held in April 2014.[12] MILE Madinah also established an alliance with Ethica Institute of Islamic Finance as a knowledge partner back in 2013.[13]
