Madlock is an alternative rock band from Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan founded by lead vocalist and lead guitarist Mehroze Gillani in 2015.[1] The band gained fame for being in the top 6 of the second season of Pepsi Battle of the Bands.[2][3][4][5]

Origin and History

Madlock was founded in 2015 by the band's lead vocalist and lead guitarist Mehroze Gillani. The band gained a huge following in their home city of Lahore and have been quite active in Lahore's underground music scene. According to Gillani, the name Madlock means absolutely nothing; he named the band that because it simply sounded awesome, and this way people would focus on the music more. Gillani had puberphonia when he was a teenager, but he didn't stop making music, and through constant vocal exercises he was able to overcome the problem. They performed in various venues in Lahore, receiving praise.[6]

Madlock, with Mehroze Gillani on lead vocals and lead guitars, Syed Awais Ali Jaffery on bass, and Asad Farooq on drums, took part in the second season of Pepsi Battle of the Bands. They performed their original song "Aarzoo". It earned the band a spot in the top 8 of the show.[7] In episode 3, the first knockout round of the Top 8 stage, Madlock did a rendition of Entity Paradigm's "Kahan Hai Tu", which received a lot of praise from the judges, as well as critics and the audience.[8] In episode 4, the second knockout round in which just 6 bands were left, Madlock performed their original song "Kab Hoga", which, due to mixed reactions from the judges, led to the band being eliminated. However, the band gained a lot of attention in Pakistan, as well as internationally, due to the platform.[9] Judges Atif Aslam and Fawad Khan considered Mehroze Gillani one of their favourite vocalists from the show.[10]

After their elimination, the band wrote on their social media handles that they would still continue to make music and appreciated the support. The band is now working on their first album, a couple of original songs and music videos, which is expected to be released sometime in 2017.
