Maed in India
Maed in India is a podcast production company and consultancy based in Mumbai, India.[1]. It was founded in 2018 by Mae Mariyam Thomas[2], host of the indie music podcast of the same name[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. In 2018, the indie music podcast Maed in India and food industry show NoSugarCoat with Pooja Dhingra were selected by Apple as the Best Podcasts of 2018 in India[11]. In 2019, Mae Mariyam Thomas was featured in GQ magazine's list of 50 Most Influential Young Indians.[12]
India’s first independent music podcast, Maed in India began as a collaborative venture between Mae Mariyam Thomas and Amit Doshi (of IVM Podcasts) in 2015[13][14]. The weekly podcast highlights independent artists and their original music across India[15]. Each episode brings an artist/band along with an exclusive stripped down session of their original music[16]. Some of the artists on the show include Prateek Kuhad, Indian Ocean, Apache Indian, Madame Gandhi, Naezy, Aadar Malik, Gino Banks, Uday Benegal, Blackstratblues, Swarathma and Sid Sriram to name a few[17]. In 2016 in collaboration with the JioSaavn[18], the podcast had four live shows which featured Blackstratblues[19], The Sidd Coutto Experience and OXYGEN[20][21][22], Laxmi Bomb and SuReal[23], and Swarathma[24][25].
In 2018, Maed in India moved off the IVM Podcasts network and was independently released exclusively on the erstwhile app BookMyShow Jukebox and on all major podcast platforms the next month[26]. On 10th September 2018, Maed in India released their second podcast, NoSugarCoat[27], in collaboration with entrepreneur, author and pastry chef Pooja Dhingra of Le15 Patisserie[28][29][30]. The podcast is a no-holds-barred conversation that brings to light the stories behind restaurant walls and kitchen doors.
Both, Maed in India and NoSugarCoat were selected by Apple Podcasts India as two of the top 7 podcasts from India in 2018[31].
In February 2019, Maed In India launched a new show - She Says She’s Fine[32], hosted by gynaecologist Dr. Munjaal Kapadia of Namaha Health Care Hospital in Kandivali West, Mumbai[33][34][35]. The show explores conversations around sex, periods, contraception, miscarriages, IVF, etc. in the context of changing lifestyle choices[36]. It was one of the first health podcasts from India to be featured by New Scientist Magazine. Its second season is exclusively distributed by Audible Suno[37]. Maed In India also worked with OML productions to create a dating and matchmaking show Cupid Kaneez with Kaneez Surka, and live comedy panel show The Unexperts with Abish Mathew for Audible Suno[38].
In November 2019, Maed in India released their fourth podcast in collaboration with Indian author, columnist and management consultant Abhijit Bhaduri and PeopleStrong, an HR Technology and Solutions company[39].
In January 2020, Maed in India teamed up with writers and journalists Supriya Nair and Deepanjana Pal to release The Lit Pickers [40][41] - a podcast that celebrates books and bold opinions. Each episode explores literature, authors and reading. The show champions the written word, the biggest ideas, thoughts, questions and conundrums[42]
