Magnolia Room Cafeteria

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Magnolia Room Cafeteria is a Southern-style cafeteria located in Tucker, Georgia. Established in February 2017 by Louis Squires, the restaurant was created as a tribute to the former S&S Cafeteria in nearby Embry Hills, which closed in 2016.[1]

History

Louis Squires, a longtime fan of the S&S Cafeteria, opened Magnolia Room to preserve the traditional Southern cafeteria experience. He recruited several former S&S employees to continue the legacy.[1] The restaurant's nostalgic design includes mid-century department store decor, colorful glass dividers, and artificial magnolia embellishments.[2]

Menu and Offerings

Magnolia Room offers a rotating selection of traditional Southern dishes, including Springer Mountain fried chicken, fried catfish, and sirloin with onions. Vegetable options include sweet potato soufflé, collard greens, green beans, and candied yams. All menu items are made from scratch.[3]

The fried chicken and mac and cheese have received praise for their taste and preparation.[4]

Recognition

Magnolia Room Cafeteria has received positive reviews for its food and service. It was featured on *Atlanta Eats*, which described the restaurant as “a soulful Southern staple” and praised the signature fried chicken and creamy mac and cheese.[4]

In both 2019 and 2020, the cafeteria was recognized in the *Atlanta Journal-Constitution*’s Readers' Choice Awards for “Best of Atlanta.”[5]

It was also listed by *Eater Atlanta* in an article titled “Where to Eat Southern Meat-and-Threes in Atlanta,” noting its preservation of a fading cafeteria-style tradition.[6]

Local Facebook food groups and community reviewers have also consistently praised Magnolia Room for quality, hospitality, and consistency.[5]

Services

The cafeteria operates daily, offering both lunch and dinner. Catering is available, and a private dining room is offered for group events of 20 to 50 people.[7]
