Maha Bhoga Marga
Maha Bhoga Marga (Main Road to Prosperity)[1] is a Community Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation established and operated by the Protestant Christian Church in Bali (GKPB) in 1980.[2] The foundation is located at Jl. Raya Kapal No. 20 Mengwi Badung, Bali.[3][4] MBM was present in communities that mostly worked as rice farmers.[2] MBM was around during a recession.[5] Even the GKPB congregation also comes from the poor in Bali.[6] Because almost all of its members come from people from low economic groups, there is a nickname for this church, namely the "poor church."[6] Therefore, various efforts were made by the Balinese Church (GKPB) to try to overcome poverty.[5] So that in the end, through various efforts and hard work, GKPB succeeded in turning things around.[6] Now GKPB through the MBM Foundation helps underprivileged people in Bali to try to improve the community's economy.
The foundation has been helping underprivileged communities in Bali since its establishment, with efforts to empower and improve people's lives such as providing support to strengthen the community's economy.[2] The foundation is an ambitious work carried out by a poor church, but has proven to be a tremendous success.[4] MBM has been helping the community since the 1980s and provides various teachings, for example, to raise chickens, goats, pigs, grow oranges, and to trade.[2]
In its journey and various efforts to improve the lives of Balinese people, MBM does not run alone.[4] MBM Foundation receives assistance from national institutions/governments and international organizations. The assistance provided by donors is very helpful in the Foundation's services in carrying out its duties and responsibilities.
In the past 20 years, the Maha Bhoga Marga Foundation has transformed into a modern social foundation, following international and national issues in program implementation, such as: climate change adaptation, HIV/AIDS prevention, permaculture concept, COVID-19 response, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, and other issues, including disaster response. As a not-for-profit social organization, MBM Foundation always prioritizes the values of transparency, openness, justice, and humanity in service to the community.
