Mahanad is a Historical Place in Polba-dadpur Block in Chinsurah subdivision of Hooghly District in the Indian state of West Bengal. Mahanad falls under the Polba Police Station And under the Mahanad Gram Panchayat .58 KM North from State capital Kolkata...[1][2][3]
This Place is best known for two famous temples - Mahanad Kali Mandir[4] & Jateswer Shiv Mandir[5].
History
There are several historical places in Mahanad. Archaeological Survey of India has found many valuable historical artifacts in Mahanad of Gupta Era. An ancient lord Shiva temple in Mahanad called Jateswer Shiv Temple. Mahanad is the 'Yogpith' of 'Nath Yogis', from thousands of years.[6]
There is a 188 year old Kali temple here called Mahanad Kali Mandir[7] .The zamindar Krishnachandra Niyogi established the Mahanad Kali temple in 1830. According to Sri Swapan Kumar Neogi, Rani Rashmoni visited this temple in the year 1842-43.[8]
Mahanad is an explored site revealing Kushan presence. The exploration conducted by A.S.I and Paresh Pal, a local antiquarian have affected discovery of gold coins of Kushan and Gupta dynasties and terracotta mostly of Gupta style.[9]

It is located at approximately 22°59’ North latitude and 88°15’ East longitude[10]. It has an average elevation/ Altitude of 15 metres. Mahanad is located around 19 kilometer away from its district headquarter Hugli-Chuchura. The nearest railway station is Pandua in the Howrah-Bardhaman main line around 7 km[11]
