Mahenur Haider Khan (Urdu: ماہ نور حیدر خان; born September 14, 1995) is a Pakistani actress and a visual artist. She started her modeling career in 2013 and enjoyed a ubiquitous presence in editorials and fashion campaigns throughout the early 2010s. Furthering her career, Khan established herself as a successful actress through commendable performances in films such as Teefa in Trouble (2018) and Parchi (2018).[1]
Alongside her successful acting and modeling careers, Khan has also ventured into furniture and fashion designing. She runs a fashion brand called Zyre.
Early life and education
Mahenur Haider Khan was born on September 14, 1995, in Lahore, Pakistan, to Zarrar Haider, a bureaucrat associated with Pakistan Administrative Service (previously known as the District Management Group), and Amina Zarrar (née Ali), a homemaker. She has a younger sister, Gulélala Khan. According to Khan, she shares Afghan ancestry from her father’s side.
Khan attended The City School in Lahore. In 2013, she enrolled at Beaconhouse National University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design.
In 2017, Khan, along with her family, moved to Islamabad.
Career before 2013
While at school, Mahenur Haider Khan enjoyed a brief career in theatre. Her first stage performance was in 2011 for Umair Ashfaq’s play, The Will, at Lahore’s famous Alhamra Arts Council. Khan played the role of a Sikh woman, Aishwariya.
Her second play was Frankengujjar, which was directed by Subhan Ahmed Bhutta. Thereafter, she took a hiatus from theatre to concentrate on her studies.[2]
2013–2018
Khan started modeling at the age of 17 when she landed her first fashion shoot with Bareezé. It was the brand's 2013 Eid campaign. Soon afterwards, she came to be noticed by photographers and fashion designers around the country.
For the next five years, Khan gathered numerous prêt wear and Lawn campaigns, modeling for brands such as Khaadi, Nishat, Maria B., Kayseria, Alkaram, Beechtree, Charizma, Chen One, Clive Shoes, Limelight, Rang Ja, Rungrez, Shoe Planet and The Closet, among others. She has also been the face of skincare brand, Conatural.
Khan has also enjoyed a background in haute couture, adding brands such as Uzma Afsheen, Saira Shakira, Tena Durrani, Omorose and Farah & Fatima to her portfolio. Not very keen on taking up ramp assignments, she has chosen to stick to editorials, TV commercials and her acting career. In 2016, Khan appeared in Jal’s music video for Layian Layian opposite Goher Mumtaz.
In January 2018, she debuted in films with Imran Kazmi’s Parchi, directed by Azfar Jafri. The film proved to be a blockbuster, with Khan’s role as Natasha being reviewed very positively in various newspapers and magazines. The cast of Parchi included prominent names such as Hareem Farooq, Ahmed Ali Akbar and Ali Rehman Khan.[3]
A month before the release of the film, Khan and her Parchi co-star, Ahmed Ali Akbar, walked the 2017 Bridal Couture Week for Ayesha Imran as showstoppers.
The same year in July, she appeared in Teefa in Trouble in a supporting role as Sara. The film was directed by Ahsan Rahim and had an ensemble cast comprising Maya Ali, Ali Zafar, Jawed Sheikh and Simi Raheal, among others. Teefa in Trouble went on to become one of the highest grossing films in the country.[4]
2018–present
Mahenur Haider Khan took a break from work after she got married but returned a few months later, appearing in various fashion campaigns. However, her comeback was mainly noticed for her work in TV commercials. In 2019, she appeared in the Strings’ music video for Raat Shabnami. The video, as well as Khan’s performance, garnered mass media attention and applause.[5]
By the end of 2019, she had worked with almost all the major fashion brands in Pakistan and been the face of Zong, Chili Mili, Mobilink, Sprite and McDonald’s, as well as appearing on the covers of GT, Sunday, Weekend and TGIF.
In 2020, alongside her modeling assignments, she appeared in Daniyal Zafar’s music video for So Long Goodbye.[6]
