Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference
The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference is an athletic conference part of the Ohio High School Athletic Association with member schools from Trumbull, Portage, Mahoning and Columbiana Counties.[1]
History
The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference was formed by several schools in the Trumbull, Portage and Mahoning County in the 2017–18 school year after the Tri-County conference disbanded that school year[2]. In 2020, the All-American Conference underwent a massive change, and the former Blue Tier Schools had joined the MVAC, creating two separate tiers within the MVAC: the Grey and Scarlet Tiers.[3] Garrettsville Garfield would also be joining the former AAC schools, however it wouldn't participate in conference play until the 2021–22 school year due to a scheduling commitment they had with their former conference, the Portage County Trail.[4]
In 2022, Sebring McKinley announced their departure from the conference as a football team and would announce they'd be joining the Northern 8 Football Conference, but due to low numbers, would remain a part of the conference for the other sports.[5]
In 2023, Southeast High School would announce they would be leaving the Portage County Trail and join the Grey Tier of the MVAC. Campbell High School would be moved to the Scarlet Tier.[6]
