Early life and background
Major Gaurav Arya is a veteran of the Indian Army and presently a well-known writer, speaker, and a TV personality. His LinkedIn profile mentions that he is President of Smart Group, which I guess has to do with Spice Group – the Modis of Modinagar.
He is a graduate in history from St Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and Officers Training Academy, Chennai. Commissioned into 17 Kumaon Regiment in 1993, he served in the Indian Army for seven years and sought voluntary retirement on medical grounds. He mentioned in an interview (that is on YouTube) that he then went to do an MBA and got into the corporate world.
Major Gaurav Arya came to prominence with his open letter to Burhan Wani (An Indian Army Major's Open Letter To Burhan Wani Raises Some Uncomfortable Questions!) in the chaos that was going on in the aftermath of his execution by Indian security forces. The letter went viral. It garnered a response from a Kashmiri (Wasim Khan) and then Major Arya responded to that letter as well (Major Gaurav Arya Responds To The Kashmiri Youth Who Wrote Open Letter To Him). His responses went viral and he acquired a following because he struck a chord with the host of people who were just done with seeing the madness and hypocrisy that was happening, with a terrorist being eulogised as a martyr!
He soon started to appear in discussions on news channels and his Facebook page (Major Gaurav Arya) and blog (MAJOR GAURAV ARYA (VETERAN)) acquired quite a readership. He would frequently appear on Times Now and in a post on Facebook and in his blog, he would later share that he was reached out to by Arnab Goswami who went to DU at the same time as he did and both of them were vaguely acquainted.
Major Arya continued to write, participate in discussions and debates on TV, give interviews (they are on YouTube), and speak in events, such as in seminars or college events, etc. Meanwhile, Arnab left Times Now to start Republic TV and Major Arya has since then been associated with the channel as Advisor on Strategic Affairs.
