MakuluLinux (spoken: "Ma-Coo-Loo"), is a Debian based Linux distribution. The developer work on four editions: LinDoz[1], Flash[2], Shift[3] and on Core[4]. LinDoz' main feature is the similarity of the WIMP elements of Microsoft Windows. The slogan of the projects is "A Whole World of Possibilities". The logo shows a hippo[5].
Principle[edit]
MakuluLinux uses different ways to develop its software compared to other Linux distributions. Because of this, the developer team doesn't use any roadmap to stay flexible[6]. The ISO files can be downloaded at Sourceforge[1][7].
Editions[edit]
- LinDoz: LinDoz is an edition that is optical similar to Windows
- Core: Core offers a Dock based edition with a dual dock and a Tri Menu system. It focuses more on 3D elements.
- Flash: Flash is similar to GNOME 2 and traditional and simple, also offers 3D elements.
- Shift: Shift is optimized for mobile devices and allows better transformation in designs. One of the main features is the touch support. There are plans to replace the other editions by this one in the future.
Features[edit]
One feature of the LinDoz edition is the already installed equipment. Office software and Gaming software like the Steam client are already pre-installed. The other version, the Barebone version excludes this software. While using this operating system, some might some eastereggs which are implemented as the homepage of this project indicates[2].
Similarity to Windows[edit]
The similarity of MakuluLinux LinDoz to Microsoft Windows allows a smooth transition the cange from Microsoft Windows. The desktop wallpaper reminds of Bliss, the popular Windows XP background image, the windows style reminds of the style of Microsoft Windows 7.
Name origin[edit]
Makulu is a word of the Zulu language and means "figure of authority". A reason for choosing this name is that the team looks for "exotic", "pushing the boundaries" and "often doing the unexpected"[6]. These are attributes of authority. The name of the Linux distribution "Ubuntu" has also its origin in the Zulu language. Ubuntu and MakuluLinux are both based of Debian.
