Malachi Sharpe is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as an forward or midfielder for Manchester United U21s in the Premier League 2. Malachi is the first cousin of former England international Viv Anderson.[4][5]

Club career[edit]

Sharpe started his career with local club AFC Vernon, but was scouted by Derby County at the age of nine.[6] Although there was also interest from Notts County and Nottingham Forest, Sharpe decided to join Derby because "the set-up there was of a higher standard".[7] After seven years at Derby County, Sharpe signed for Manchester United in 2021.[8] He currently plays for United's U21 team.[9]

International career[edit]

Although Sharpe has represented Scotland at youth level, he is also eligible to play for Jamaica and England.[4] He made his international debut on 27 October 2024, for Scotland U17 in a 3–2 win against Northern Ireland in a U17 UEFA Euro Qualifier, scoring a header in the 79th minute after a cross from Ben Doak.[10][11] He made his debut for Scotland U19s in a 0–0 draw with Bulgaria U19 in the U19 UEFA Euro Qualifiers. In his next two games, a 3–1 win against Andorra U19 and a 2–1 win against Serbia U19 in the same competition, Malachi scored two goals, one in each game.[12][13]

Style of play[edit]

Sharpe has been described as a winger who is "quick, direct, and has an eye for goal."[14] He is also noted for showing a "willingness to take players on and get in behind defences," while his "pace and quick feet make him difficult to contain."[15]
