Malika Fadel ben Salvador

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Malika Fadel ben Salvador (1302-1350s), was a Spanish (Moorish) privateer.

Born in a wealthy family in Almeria, but was orphaned during the siege of James II of Aragon in 1309. She married her uncle Ibn Fadel, who traded with his own fleet between Al-Andalus and Italy, and who occasionally engaged in piracy. Upon the death of her spouse in the plague of 1329, she took command of the fleet as Captain. Reportedly, she had her own palace built in Puerta del Mar en Almería. She participated in battle against the Catalan Admiral Moreau de Perellós, who attacked her fleet despite the peace treaty between Castilia and Grenada.
