Omar AbdulRahim Nofal (Arabic ممدوح نوفل) was a Palestinian political figure, member of Palestine National Council and member of the Higher Military Council of the Palestinian revolution since its establishment. Mamdouh participated in the establishment of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and served as the commander of the forces of the revolution in Lebanon from 1985–1988. In the 1990s, he served as a member of the Higher Palestinian National Security Council. He published many books, a number of articles, several studies and political commentaries in newspapers and journals.[1]
Early life and education
He was born in Qalqilya in Palestine in 1944. He attended teaching college in Ramallah in the early 1960s and then joined the Arab Nationalist Movement and the military wing of the movement.[2] He left Lebanon for Syria and Tunisia. His code name was Mamdouh, after a brave Iraqi soldier who fought in Qalqilia in 1948. [3]
After Oslo Accords
He returned to the West Bank in 1996. Mamdouh died in 2006 and was buried in Al-Bireh city.
