Manfred Meisel (* 1948; † November 11/12, 1997 near S'Aranjassa on Mallorca) was a German restaurant and bar operator. He became known as the operator and owner of the Bierkönig beer garden in Mallorca. On November 12, 1997 he was found shot dead on his finca.
Life[edit]
Meisel, a restaurateur in Frankfurt am Main, decided in the late 1980s to continue his business in Mallorca. Together with his business partner Gerd Nicolai, he first wanted to buy the pizzeria Andis from Horst Abel, known as the "King of Sausage". An acquaintance of Meisel's drew his attention to the run-down pub Bierkönig. Meisel acquired the restaurant and it opened on April 21, 1990 after renovations. In the years that followed, the pub's fame increased and the Bierkönig achieved cult status for German tourists.
Death[edit]
Meisel was found shot dead on his finca near S'Aranjassa on the morning of November 12, 1997.[1], together with his eight-year-old son and an employee. Meisel's pregnant partner survived because she was in Germany at the time. The perpetrators could not be identified.
In April 2022, Phil Jahner and Marcus Engert published a research podcast on Spotify dealing with the murder case: 'The Real Bierkönig' rose to number 1 in the german podcast charts there within two weeks of publication[2]
