Mangesh Jeevan Desai (born 28 June 1972) is an Indian actor and comedian. He has appeared in many Marathi language films, and stage plays in lead roles, and also in Hindi language TV serials in lead and supporting roles. He is best known for his role in the Marathi Movie Ek Albela (2016) starring opposite Vidya Balan for which he received his first Filmfare and State Awards. He came into prominence after Khel Mandala (2013), a movie that garnered many awards and established him as one of the prominent actors in the Marathi film industry. Khel Mandala (2013) helped him bagged national awards like Sanskruti Kala Darpan, Screen Awards, and an International award by Third Eye Film Festival.
Mangesh Desai’s character as senior police inspector Sunil Kelkar in Crime Patrol is one of the famous characters from the serial, and his dialogue “Char Chamach Shaker Ki Chai Dimag Ki Batti Jalay” has become one the most liked dialogues used by the viewers. He has acted in more than 40 films is one of the notable stars in the Marathi Film industry. His first negative role in the movie Judgement (2021) as an IAS officer received the best negative role award from Sakal Premier Awards and Maharashtra Times Awards.

He landed his first commercial theatre play Happy Birthday in 1993 which was directed by Satish Pulekar. He received the best actor award (Natya Gaurav) in a supporting role for it. Further he bagged a few more leading and supporting roles in other plays viz. Rahile Dur Ghar Majhe (1995), Ayushya Asach Jagaicha Asta (1996), Jau Bai Jorat (2000), Vadhta Vadhta Vadhe (2003) and Sobhatine Chaltana (2015). Jau Bai Jorat completed around 1100 plays in India

He made his debut in a Marathi thriller serial Teesra Dola (1998) as an assistant detective. Mangesh Desai did a few more roles in other Marathi serials viz Gharkul, Avantika, Ekalte Political, Vasudha , Saanj Savlya. Mangesh Desai received much more recognition when he was announced as a runner-up (twice) in one of the most prominent Marathi TV shows Fu-Bai-Fu. His character Sunil Kelkar as a Policeman in Crime Patrol is very much appreciated by the audience and is one of the top Hindi TV shows watched in India. His dialogue “Char chamach shaker ki chai dimag ki batti jalay” is a famous dialogue from the Crime Patrol series.

Bapu Biru Vategaonkar was his debut film followed by other several films viz Blind game, Master Eke Master, Baba Lagin, Nishane Dava Angtha, Huppa huiya, Khel Mandla, Bioscope and International Film Free State. Personal Life[edit]
Mangesh Jeevan Desai was born on 28 June 1972 to Jeevan and Prabhavati Desai. He hails from Aurangabad (Maharashtra), and resides in Thane. He initiated his career as a child artist in Theatre at the age of 11. After completing his graduation from Bsc. Electronics from S.B. Science College – Aurangabad, he bagged a degree in Bachelors of Dramatics, and continued his aim of making a career in acting. He landed his first commercial theatre play Happy Birthday (1993) directed by Satish Pulekar for which he received the best actor award (Natya Gaurav) in a supporting role. This recognition got him a few more commercial theatres plays.
Mangesh Desai is married to Shalaka Desai and they have a son name Saahil Desai. He also owns a production house Saahil Motion Arts where he has actively completed public awareness projects, government projects (Thane Police Commisionerate), and currently he is the face (Brand Ambassador) of Thane Traffic Police playing character of Tu. La. Shikve an initiative taken by Thane Traffic Police under the guidance Deputy Commissioner of Police Thane Balasaheb Waghmode Patil. Mangesh Desai is frequently seen posting about his events on his Instagram (@mangeshdesai) and Facebook page (@MangeshDesaiOfficial).
