Manic Kat Records is an American independent record label founded in August 2009 that focuses on pop punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, emo, pop rock, metal, metalcore, and alternative musical genres..[1] Manic Kat Records is headquartered in Pomona, New York.
History[edit]
Founded in 2009, Manic Kat Records was established as an independent record label that would "aim to put artists first". While primarily having pop punk bands, the label also has bands from the genres of hardcore punk, punk rock, post-hardcore, emo, pop rock, metalcore, and alternative rock.[2]
Founder Peter James stated he founded the label out of his passion for the local pop punk scene in New Jersey. He also stated he wanted to create a label that truly nurtured creative growth in bands after dealing with difficult labels in the past.[3]
After a four year hiatus from 2010 through 2014, the label resumed operations and began to grow slow and steadily year after year.[4] The label's five-year anniversary in 2019 was marked with the release of 5 Years of Real Punk. Real Attitude. The compilation album featured assorted singles spanning over the last five years, with songs from artists, Right On, Kid, Noise Brigade, and The Anchor, among others.[citation needed]
2019 also brought much success to Manic Kat Records and their artists have seen Billboard charting success on multiple occasions. Right On, Kid's When Words are Enough reached the Heatseekers Chart.[5] Other bands such as The Anchor has also received placement on multiple Billboard charts with their albums, Make it Last [6] and Breathe.[7]
The label expanded overseas throughout the course of the late 2010's and still is expanding to countries like Australia with the signing of the band, Nautical Mile[8], and France with the addition of Talia[9]
Manic Kat extended their growth with the partnership of UK based independent custom guitar luthier and builder, Maybury Guitars. Even with all the global growth, the label still stayed close to their home-state roots with the partnership of New Jersey based guitar pedal manufacturer, Tenacity Pedals.[10]
In 2020, the label launched Punk Hub Live. As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Punk Hub was launched as an interactive platform for bands to perform live concerts over the web.[11]
Every December Manic Kat Records hosts their annual holiday show/party event, “A Very Merry Punxmas”, which brings their artists from not only all over the country, but all over the world together to perform. December 2021 marks the fourth year and proves to be even bigger than last year's.[12]
2022 brought in a number of changes for Manic Kat, one most notably being the signing of Todd Morse, one of the founding members of H2O and current bassist of The Offspring, releasing new single, Everything Fun (Is Bad for Me).[13]
On the heels of this major signing announcement, Manic Kat announced a very unexpected new signing of multi-platinum award winning singer/songwriter, Ryan Cabrera, along with announcement of his new single, Prescription of You.[14]
Manic Kat Records is currently distributed through Alliance Entertainment and MNRK Music Group.[15]
