Mansoor Ahmad (born 21 June 1967) is a British Bangladeshi life devotee of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community [1] in the United Kingdom currently serving as Manager Accounts with Al Shirkatul Islamiyyah [2] which is one of the largest charities in the UK.
Mansoor has been contributing greatly over a period of 17 years towards the British Community, being involved in many community activities, especially those focused on education and charity. He has served and is still serving as a co-opted member [3] and parent governor representative on the London Borough of Merton Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Commission [4] and Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Panel [5] from September 2015 to November 2017, and from March 2020 onwards. Mansoor has been associated with several schools [6] in his community, where he has been contributing towards the education of students and school development planning, as well as providing backing to strategic discussions at governing board meetings. He served as Parent Governor, Chairman, and as a member of many other committees. He has actively been involved with various committees of local government, various charity groups and voluntary teams for the various activities of the British Community.
Early Life and Education
The fifth of five children, Mansoor Ahmad was born on the 21st June 1967 to an Ahmadi Muslim family in Diesel Colony Jhautala under Police Station Pahartali, district Chittagong in East Pakistan, present-day Bangladesh. His father Muzaffar Muhammad Atish was a railway employee and mother Halima Khatun was a housewife. His parents and forefathers migrated from India to then East Pakistan in 1948. Mansoor's early childhood was spent in the locality where he was born. He received his primary education from Wireless Jhautala Colony High School. In 1980 he moved with his uncle, Professor Monam Billah [7], to Nizampur College under the Upzilla of Mirsarai, district Chittagong. His uncle at the time was a Professor of English in Nizampur College. Mansoor received his education and moral training under the guidance, love, care and affection of his dear Uncle Principal Monam Billah. Mansoor passed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination in 1983 from Sarkathat N R High School under Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Comilla and was placed in First Division from Commerce Group. In 1985 he passed his Higher Secondary School Certification (HSC) Examination from Nizampur Degree College under Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Comilla and was placed in First Division from Commerce Group. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) with Honours Examination in Accounting from University of Chittagong, Bangladesh held in 1991 (Examination of 1988) and passed his Master of Commerce (M.Com) Examination in Accounting from University of Chittagong , Bangladesh held in 1994 (Examination of 1989). Having completed the standard education and training route, he gained membership with many professional bodies of the world. Mansoor is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Financial Accountants of UK (IFA – UK), the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India (ICMAI- India), the Institute of Public Accountants – Australia (IPA), Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA-UK) and a Fellow Member of the Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Early Career
After completing his Master's Degree in Accounting at the University of Chittagong in 1994, Mansoor joined YOUNGONES, a Korea-based supplier of multi-product clothing, as an accounts officer. He then worked for more than 11 years as a Finance Manager at the Chittagong Stock Exchange Limited, attending numerous training sessions and events during his tenure. Additionally, Mansoor taught as a visiting lecturer at several private universities, including the University of Science & Technology, Preston University USA: Chittagong Campus, Premier University, and Southern University Bangladesh. He taught at BBA, MBA, and ACCA levels while working at the stock exchange.
Honours
Mansoor Ahmad has been honoured with the British Empire Medal (BEM) in Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday Honours List 2022 [8] for his contributions, support, and voluntary services to the London Borough of Merton during the pandemic of Covid-19. Mansoor served the community in partaking of essential relief efforts such as shopping for the vulnerable and elderly, and delivering hygiene items like hand sanitizers, gloves, and cleaning products. He regularly reminded the community to follow the UK Government’s guidelines, and encouraged universal support for the NHS.
Mansoor was presented the British Empire Medal with Certificate and Honours Presentation 2022 [9] in the New Armouries, The Tower of London from The Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE [10], King Charles III’s representative in Greater London. Having received an invitation from His Majesty King Charles III, Mansoor Ahmad along with his wife attended the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on the 3rd of May 2023 to celebrate His Majesty’s Coronation [11].
He is also the first British Bangladeshi to be honoured with the British Citizen Awards (BCA) Roll of Honour 2021 [12] , receiving the BCA – Medal of Honour for his endeavours and contributions to the British Community. The Palace of Westminster Official Presentation ceremony was held in House of Lords, UK Parliament in September 2021.
He was also awarded the House of Lords British Community Honours Award (BCHA) [13] [14] in October 2019, held at the UK Parliament, for his support towards British Society, having been also presented with the Certificate of Recognition from British Citizen Awards in January 2019 for his contributions, and for "being an example" to the British public.
Mansoor was awarded the Mayor of London Borough of Merton’s Covid-19 Award [15] in December 2020 for his local contributions, and for the differences which he made to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic. Mansoor Ahmad received the All England Lawn Tennis Club [16] recognition in 2021 [17] for his continued voluntary support and Covid-19 pandemic efforts towards the British Community.
British Bangladeshi Mansoor Ahmad was honoured with Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London recognition for "exceptional contribution" to the British Community.
Publications
Mansoor is a member of the Commonwealth Journalists Association UK and has authored numerous articles on topics such as his own humanitarian works[18], biographical writings [19] , and religious persecution [20]. He has spoken as a presenter and keynote speaker in various seminars, workshops, and conferences.[21]
