Maor Levi
Maor Levi is an Israeli electronic music producer and DJ. He is associated with trance, progressive house, bass music and other forms of electronic dance music. In addition to his solo work, Levi has been a member of the electronic music projects Bad Royale, Elysian and Unicorn Blood.[1][2][3]
Career
Levi became associated with the Anjuna label group as a teenager. EDM Identity reported that he debuted with "Lital" on Anjunadeep and released "Reflect" and "Illumina" in 2007 before moving to Anjunabeats.[4][5]
In 2013, Dancing Astronaut reviewed Levi's Anjunabeats single "Holding On", describing it as a return to his trance roots and contrasting it with electro and dubstep elements used in some of his earlier productions.[6]
Levi has collaborated with electronic music artists including Ilan Bluestone, Emma Hewitt, Armin van Buuren, BT, Yahel, Ashley Tomberlin and others.[7][8]
In 2021, Levi collaborated with Armin van Buuren on "Divino". Dancing Astronaut reported that the track was named van Buuren's "tune of the week" on episode 1013 of A State of Trance.[9]
In 2026, Levi released Reflect Reliquified / Illumina Reliquified, a six-track EP reworking his earlier Anjunadeep tracks "Reflect" and "Illumina".[4][10]
Projects
Bad Royale
Levi was a founding member of Bad Royale, an electronic music group with Bruce Karlsson, Kevin Wild and Elias Ghosn. DJ Mag reported in 2015 that the group's members included Levi, Karlsson, Wild and Ghosn, and described Bad Royale as a project involving artists who had previously released music on labels including Anjunabeats, Spinnin' Records and Armada Music.[1]
Bad Royale released music through labels including Mad Decent and Buygore. DJ Mag described the group as being associated with Mad Decent and reported that their debut Move Like EP was released through the label.[1] Billboard also premiered "Bun It Up", featuring Bunji Garlin, from the group's Immutable Timeline EP on Mad Decent.[11]
In 2016, Major Lazer and Bad Royale released "My Number". Pitchfork reported that the track sampled Toots and the Maytals' "54-46 That's My Number".[12]
In 2017, Dancing Astronaut reported that Bad Royale had continued as a trio after Levi left the group to focus on solo music.[13]
Elysian
In 2020, Levi, Ilan Bluestone and Emma Hewitt formed the trance project Elysian. Dancing Astronaut described the group as a collaboration between Bluestone, Levi and Hewitt, and reported that their debut single "Moonchild" was released through Anjunabeats.[2] The same publication later published a roundtable interview with the group around the release of the EP Water.[14]
Unicorn Blood
Levi is also a member of Unicorn Blood, a psychedelic trance project with Eliran Hasan, also known as OTIOT. Discogs describes Unicorn Blood as an Israeli psychedelic trance duo by Levi and Hasan.[3] The project has released music through Shamanic Tales, including "Wonderland", More Power / Stars and Demons / That Sound.[15][16]
Musical style
Levi's work has been associated with trance, progressive house and bass music. Dancing Astronaut described "Holding On" as melody-driven and rooted in trance, while EDM Identity described Reflect Reliquified / Illumina Reliquified as combining earlier Anjuna material with liquid drum and bass versions.[6][4]
Bad Royale was associated with trap and dancehall-influenced electronic music. DJ Mag described the group as a project that moved from trance backgrounds into trap, while later releases involved dancehall and Caribbean-influenced collaborations.[1][11]
Unicorn Blood has been associated with psychedelic trance and Detroit techno-influenced electronic music.[3][15]
