Marcel van Drunen (born 6 July 1970) is a Dutch professional motorcycle racer and entrepreneur. Originally a motocross rider, he transitioned to Supermoto, where he became one of the world's leading figures, winning eight Dutch national championships. He is also the founder of the internationally recognized "MVD Sportswear" brand.[1]
Career
Van Drunen began his professional racing career in 1987 in motocross. He gained international recognition in 1991 when he finished 6th in the AMA 125cc West Coast Championship in the United States. During the late 1990s, he dominated the German Motocross Championship, securing three titles in 1995, 1996, and 1998.
In the early 2000s, he switched to Supermoto and became a dominant force in the discipline. He won eight consecutive Dutch Supermoto Championships between 2004 and 2011, establishing himself as a legend in the sport. In 2006, he successfully completed the Dakar Rally, finishing the world's most demanding endurance race.[2]
Van Drunen has also served as a mentor and technical coach for young international talents, including Turkish national rider Asrin Rodi Pak, during their developmental years in European racing circuits.
Business career
Van Drunen is the founder and CEO of MVD Sportswear. He established the brand to create lightweight and ergonomic racing gear specifically designed for the unique demands of Supermoto and Motocross. His innovations in racing suits, which prioritize comfort and mobility for professional athletes, are used by riders worldwide.[3]
