Marcello Gil de Oliveira (born March 12, 1976), AKA Marcello Gil, is a Brazilian youth pastor, songwriter, singer, and musician. He is also known for his work as a journalist, article writer, TV host, executive producer, video producer, video editor, photographer, lighting design, and marketeer. He was ordained a minister by Apostle Joel Pereira at Projeto Vida Church, a Non-Denominational Christian Church in Brazil, after years of direct discipleship and training.

Biography[edit]

Marcello started playing music in High School and was still a teenager when he joined his first band. Later he began his career as a Christian Rock singer and songwriter, recording songs that reflect his Christian beliefs. Marcello, alongside Luciano Csar Brito guitar and Rodrigo Groetaers drums, is the founder of the Christian rock band Atrium. The band recorded three full albums from 1998 to 2002. Marcello wrote or co-wrote over 60 songs and produced 8 different albums.

He was a key figure in the Brazilian Christian Rock scenario at the state of Rio de Janeiro between 1998 and 2003, sharing the stage with bands like Oficina G3 and Fruto Sagrado in many different festivals and events. At the time, Marcello helped to consolidate one of the most important projects of drug use prevention in the state of Rio de Janeiro, "Sua Cidade Sem Drogas (something like "Your City - No Drugs").

Between 1999 and 2000, Marcello worked as a sound technician for Brazilian singer Baby do Brasil also known as Baby Consuelo, one of the icons of the Novos Baianos movement. Years later (in 2003) Marcello wrote the song "Rio de Deus" and invited Sarah Sheeva (former SNZ), Consuelo's daughter, for a duo. They recorded the song and it was later included in a collective album, to fundraise funds for a campaign for peace in Rio.

From 2001 to 2003 Marcello became nationally known in Brazil as the songwriter (and singer) of the song "Meus Sonhos", AKA "Os Sonhos de Deus". The song became the anthem of one of the most relevant Christian movements in Brazil during those years: The "G 12". At the time the movement was led by Apostle Renê TerraNova, lead pastor at Ministério Internacional da Restauração, a megachurch in Manaus. This song was broadcast on Radio Stations all around Brazil, other countries in Latin America, and even in Europe. A slideshow using the song as a soundtrack was posted on YouTube back in 2008 and had more than 1.700.000 views during a time when this kind of achievement was not that common. Gil's musical career incorporates an eclectic range of influences including Rock, POP, and Worship Music.

In 2002 Marcello was invited to lead the Commercial Department of "Radio 88FM," which holds the largest Christian/Gospel Music radio station audience in the state of Rio de Janeiro. He produced and managed various cultural events and contests geared toward the Christian/Gospel music industry, having the opportunity to judge and reward a diversity of singers and bands, remaining there until mid-2003.

Also in 2002, Marcello began his career as a stage/lighting designer, occasionally drawing stage maps and lighting projects for one of the most famous POP Rock bands in Brazil at that time, Jota Quest.

In 2003, Marcello started his career as a video producer, working for important companies and institutions in Brazil, such as Companhia Siderurgica Nacional - CSN, Saint-Gobain, Galvasud, Governo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Assembleia Legislativa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Radio 88FM, and Projeto Vida Church/Music, among others. He was also the coordinator of the "Banco do Elementos Educacionais Multimedia", a multimedia project developed for CEDERJ/CECIERJ Foundation, a government organization that provides distance education at the State of Rio de Janeiro on College level.

From 2002 to 2005 Marcello was the executive director and one of the hosts of the TV show "Por Um Milagre", first broadcast over Central Nacional de Televisão - CNT CNT Network Television and then moved to TV Bandeirantes Band Network Television.

Between 2004 and 2008, on two occasions, Marcello won the "Marketing Talent" award, a competition organized by TV RioSul, an affiliate of Rede Globo de Televisão. He was also nominated on two other occasions for the same prize.

In 2008 Marcello, alongside his friend Silas Avila Jr, launched "Revista Palavra" in Brazil, a magazine that was originally issued in the USA that had a focus on the Brazilian community in the state of Connecticut. Marcello proposed to change the focus of the magazine, turning it into a variety magazine that would reach a broader audience. The strategy worked and the magazine soon became a huge success. He was also the chief editor/article writer, and head of the Commercial Department of the magazine.

In 2009 Gil was in charge of producing and recording the album "The Best We Have", a collective album including hits from previous albums of "Projeto Vida Church", but recorded in English. For this project, Marcello worked in collaboration with Lucas Macedo and Diogo Macedo from EME Studios. The studio is known for recording and producing many famous Brazilian bands and singers, such as Strike [pt], Biquini Cavadão, Milton Nascimento, Yahoo, Diogo Nogueira, Jota Quest, João Bosco, Milton Guedes, Vanguard, among others. The album was mastered at Sterling Sound, the iconic mastering studio located in New York City.

From 2011 to 2014 Marcello was the showrunner, director, and producer of the videocast "Rompendo Limites", which later became the TV show "Rompendo Limites", aired at Band network television. Marcello, working in collaboration with the local agency Apice, produced DVD Series of Apostle Joel Pereira's messages, using the material as the foundation of the TV show. He also coordinated the sales department of this project. The sales of the DVDs became a huge success, covering all the expenses to broadcast the TV show. At the same time, Marcello worked as Production Director at Projeto Vida Church, using his abilities to organize many Conferences hosting American singers like Jake Hamilton and John Mark Macmillan, Brazilian Singers and Bands such as Thalles Roberto, Kleber Lucas, Fernandinho [pt], Pregador LUO, Juliano Son, and others. Those events hosted International Speakers like Randy Clark with Global Awakening, apostle Che Ahn, evangelist Todd White with Lifestyle Christianity, pastor Larry Stockstill, and producer Jay Argaet from Hillsong - Australia.

In 2013, Marcello photographed the recording of the live album "Profeta da Esperança" of singer and songwriter Kleber Lucas. The label liked the pictures so much that they used them for all graphics and promotions. The album was acclaimed by critics and public, being awarded the Latin Grammy later that same year.

In 2014, Marcello moved with his family to Winter Park, Florida, USA, a smaller town located 15 minutes from downtown Orlando. There, Marcello went to UCEDA to study English, and later to Valencia College to study Computer Information Technology.

From mid-2015 to mid-2017, Marcello was the International Representative of Projeto Vida Radio Station, writing articles for the online edition of the station. In 2015 he played lead guitar for Donna Leigh Hinkley. That same year he was invited by Ish Beloso to join Revolution Cry Collective, contributing to the project as musician, songwriter, and producer. Among the songs Marcello wrote is "Kingdom Come", recorded and produced by David Provenzano, which has the great vocals of Johnny Redding. In 2020 the song was nominated for one of the industry's awards.

After 2 years serving as a volunteer, in 2017 Marcello was invited by senior pastor Thomas Cook to become the youth pastor at The Praise Place, a Non-Denominational Christian church in Winter Park. In April of 2019, after serving as the Youth Pastor at TPP for 2 years, Marcello moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, and became the Middle School Pastor at Canyon Ridge Christian Church, the second-largest church in Vegas.

In January 2021, Marcello and the former original members of Atrium, Luciano and Rodrigo, started a comeback project. By the time of this edit they already have 4 new songs recorded and in the post-production process and are working on 6 more. Due to the distance of their domiciles, they used various studios to record, edit, and mix the songs. More details coming soon.

Marcello has been married to his wife Renata since 2000 and they have 2 children. He is a full-time Middle School Pastor at The Ridge, teaching and leading hundreds of students in their spiritual lives every week. He is often seen on stage at Canyon Ridge joining the worship team, sometimes playing bass and others singing.
