Marcelo Brunet Bruce (born 13 April 1973) is a Chilean lawyer,[2] pundit,[3][4][5] politician and member of the centre-right political party National Renewal (RN).[6][7][8]

He studied law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC), where he obtained his law degree. Early in his political career, he was associated with the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) before later joining RN.[6]

Brunet has worked in electoral litigation, representing parties and candidates in election-related legal proceedings before Chilean electoral authorities.[9] His legal practice has focused on disputes concerning candidacies and electoral regulations.[1]

Biography

Brunet attended Luis Campino School, where he participated in pastoral activities.[6] After graduating, he studied law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC), subsequently qualifying as a lawyer. He initially became involved with the UDI party before joining RN.[6][10]

During his early professional career, he worked in private legal practice and briefly at the Chilean Gendarmerie in 2011.[1]

Political career

In 2011, Brunet was among group of politically active social media users invited to La Moneda Palace by President Sebastián Piñera. In 2012, he took part in legal proceedings arising from Chile's municipal elections.[1]

In 2013, Brunet sought the nomination of RN for the Chamber of Deputies in the communes of Independencia and Recoleta. He subsequently withdrew his precandidacy amid public controversy on his personal finances.[11][12]

In 2015, Brunet began appearing as a political commentator on Radio Bío-Bío.[13] He later expanded his media presence through opinion columns and political analysis published by Chilean outlets, including Sin filtros[14] and Canal Vía X,[15] addressing national politics, public affairs, or institutional issues.[15]

In 2026, Brunet was elected to the Political Commission of his party, RN.[16]
