Mareme Faye also written as Marième Faye is a Senegalese swimmer and a member of Cercle des Nageurs de Dakar.[1] She is many times national champion, Senegalese national record holder and won a bronze medal at the 2008 African Swimming Championships.
Personal life
Faye is from Gorée. Her younger sister is fashion designer Elise Faye.[2]
Swimming career
Already in 2004 she was already among the best swimmers of Senegal.[3]
At the 2008 African Swimming Championships in Johannesburg, she won a bronze medal in the 4 x 100 m medley relay.[4] At the 2009 World Aquatics Championships she competed in five events, including swimming the Senegalese national record in the Women's 4 × 100 metre medley relay event with a time of 4:46.20.[5]
At the 2011 national championships she became five times national champion, and won a total of 13 medals.[6] That year she was also named the best Senegalese swimmer this year Senegalese Swimming Federation.[7]
She received an invitation to compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics, from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of the Games' universality.[8] While the 100m backstroke is her favorite event, she competed at the 2012 Olympics in the Women's 100 metre freestyle event. She won her heat but didn't qualify for the semifinals as other heats had faster times.[9]
