Margaret Palermo (born 7 March 1975) is a Hungarian YouTube personality, known for managing her daughter Venus Isabelle Palermo.[2][3][4]

Early life and education[edit]

In May 2010[5] while in Spain, Venus started to upload her videos to YouTube which quickly gained attention and she was invited to Japanese singer Rumi Shishido in August 2010[6] and also appeared on Japanese radio.[7] At that time the duo didn't sign an entertainment contract in Japan but returned to Spain from where they continued uploading videos to YouTube.

Because of lack of school places in South London Margaret moved to the Netherlands with her daughter Venus Isabelle Palermo in early 2014 to pursue her education,[8] after having previously lived in the United Kingdom where Venus did not receive a public school place and had to be home-schooled 3 years by her mother Margaret Palermo.[9] Few months after moving to the Netherlands they moved once again to Japan, where Venus' education is being continued now. Thanks to the unconventional methods of her teaching Venus speaks 6 languages: English, Swiss German, German, Spanish, Japanese and Dutch.[7][10][11]

Career[edit]

In 2003 Margaret Palermo took part in the Swiss movie production Ready, Steady, Charlie! as an extra.[1]

In Switzerland Margaret Palermo appeared on VIVA TV with Max Loong. Also while living in Switzerland she successfully sold her paintings and had her poems published (written in German).

Seeing Venus' potential, in 2011 her mother Margaret decided to move to Brixton, South West London with her[10] to pursue Venus' career.[12] This decision turned out to be a good one, as one of her videos, the one entitled "How to look like a doll", went viral in March 2012.[12][13] As of April 2015, the video has amassed over 12,000,000 views.[14] Since then, her and her mother have been invited to and attended various international television shows, including Daybreak,[15] TLC Discovery[16] and The Morning Show Australia.[17]

She is often criticised for allowing her daughter Venus Palermo the freedom of expression and many call it a "questionable parenting" but Margaret Palermo claims that her daughter's look is "natural", and her behaviour "innocent"[18] and appeared together with Venus on various TV shows around the world.[3][4][19] Strangely, Margaret doesn't feel bothered by the critical voices but carries on proudly.

Margaret works as Venus Isabelle Palermo's manager,[20] stylist/hairdresser,[21] photographer[20][22] and spokesperson (sold many of her shots and essays to international magazines like e.g the Chat (magazine),[23] BRAVO,[24] 20minuten[25]). In addition Margaret developed viral video ideas, shot and edited those videos using unconventional methods with the goal of gaining attention e.g. at an IKEA warehouse[26] having nearly 3,000,000 views by today[27] to call an example.
