Margarette W. Brooks
Margarette W. Brooks is an american scientist. She published at least three papers on insects, which leads us to believe that she was an entomologist.
In an 1881 paper <ref>https://www.thoughtco.com/how-to-use-crickets-to-calculate-temperature-1968372<\ref> , she broached the subject of a phenomenon we now know as Dolbear's law. Her paper was published 16 years before Dolbear's equation. There is no evidence that he read the paper of Margarette W. Brooks, therefore there is no need to say he has stolen the equation. It was common for quite a long time to not cite women scientists on academic papers. But the erasure of women scientists, even nowadays, is regular enough that a term was coined for the bias by science historian Margaret W. Rossiter, the Matilda effect.
