Marai Fagoci ; (October 28, 1915- February 14,1942) was a Italian writer chiefly known for her drama and comedy plays discovered after her death in South Tyrol, where she was sent for her writings and for activities as a member of the Italian resistance movement.[1]

Biography[edit]

Early life[edit]

Born in Calcata, near Rome, Maria gravitated toward theater and politics in her youth. She was never married but it is claimed she had two illegitimate children.Later in life she met actor and theatrical producer Giovacchino Forzano and was with his company in Gardone Riviera when Italy entered the war in 1940.

Resistance and arrest[edit]

Accordingly, she returned to Rome where she joined the Italian resistance movement where she helped printing and distributing pamphlets and other anti-Nazi Germany reading material.She took an active role in writing and publishing an underground jurnal.

On 2 March 1942 police followed a courier to her apartment, and arrested Maria. She was later sent to South Tyrol where she died at the age of 27.
