Maria Meer (Punjabi, Urdu: ماریہ میر) (born 10 October 1995)[1] is a Pakistani singer from a middle-class family of Faisalabad.[2]
Meer appeared on Pakistan Idol in December 2013. She was rejected by the show's judges, but gained widespread support on social media.[3] Her audition video went viral on YouTube where she received support from Pakistani viewers despite the critique she received from the judges.[3][4] The attention led Pakistani singer Amanat Ali to sign and mentor her.[5] Meer is featured on his single "Naina Lagay".[6] In the beginning of June, her song was released on YouTube where it gained much popularity and made her a celebrity nationwide, and she was seen on a popular Pakistani morning show.[citation needed]
