Maria Papayanni was born in Larissa (27 May 1964). She studied Greek Language and Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and for many years she worked as a journalist on TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines.
After that, she turned to writing books for children & teenagers and translating books into Greek. She has also written theatrical plays for children and librettos.
In 1993 she married the famous music composer Thanos Mikroutsikos and together they have two children.
