Maria Wąsowska (7 March 1931) in Chełmża - (7 May 1993) in Toruń, was a Polish graphic artist specialising in linocut.

She studied at the Fine Arts Department of the UMK Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. After graduation from the class of Professor Jerzy Hoppen and Assistant Professor Edward Kuczyński in 1953, she continued her studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. She joined the Association of Polish Artists and Designers "ZPAP" in 1953. She was elected chairwoman of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers Regional Board (ZO ZPAP) in Toruń in 1980. In 1966, a source listed her among the foremost contemporary artists alongside as celebrated ones as, for instance, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Paul Klee, Max Ernst, Georges Braque, Roy Lichtenstein, Alberto Giacometti [1].

Artistic activity[edit]

In 1954−92, Maria Wąsowska took part numerous artistic undertakings. A member of the Toruń Group, she also belonged to the xylographers’ association "Xylon" operating in Switzerland, and other professional organisations. Beginning in 1959, she took an active part in the promotion of Polish art on the international arena, presenting her works at international conferences and art surveys.
