Maribel Romero (full name: María Isabel Romero Sangüesa) is a linguist known for her work in the field of semantics. She is a professor at the University of Konstanz and was elected as a member of the Academia Europaea in 2022.

Education[edit]

From 1985 to 1993, she studied Classical Philology and Latin Philology at the University of Barcelona. She started her Ph.D. in linguistics at the University of Massachusetts in 1993.[1] In 1998, she published her doctoral dissertation "Focus and Reconstruction Effects in Wh-Phrases".[2] In 1998 she began as assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, and was promoted to associate professor in 2004. In 2007 she moved to the University of Konstantz where, as of 2023, she is a professor.[3]

Research[edit]

Romero's research falls under the umbrella of formal semantics. She has broad interests across pragmatics, semantics, and the syntax-semantics interface.[4] In recent years has adopted experimental methodologies,[3] and is a member of the major research network XPrag in experimental pragmatics.[5] She has led funded projects on questions, conditionals, and clausal embedding.[6]
