Her research addresses semantics, pragmatics and the syntax-semantics interface.[1][2][3] Romero earned her PhD in linguistics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1998 with a dissertation entitled, "Focus and Reconstruction Effects in Wh-Phrases."[2][4] In 2022, she was elected as a Member of the Academia Europaea.[3]

Biography[edit]

Romero earned her Ph.D. in linguistics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1998[3] with a dissertation entitled, "Focus and Reconstruction Effects in Wh-Phrases."[4][2] She has worked at the University of Pennsylvania, in addition to her current position at the University of Konstanz.[3]

Honors and awards[edit]

In 2022 Romero was elected as a Member of the Academia Europaea.[3] This award is given to individuals that have demonstrated "sustained academic excellence".[5] Membership is by invitation only by existing MAE only and judged during a peer review selection process.[6] Members are entitled to use the post-nominal letters MAE.[7]

Romero's research falls under the umbrella of formal semantics and pragmatics.[1][2][3] Particular phenomena she has worked on include questions, quantifiers, and counterfactuality.[1][2][3] In recent years she has adopted experimental methodologies,[3] and is a member of the major research network XPrag in experimental pragmatics.[8][1] She has led funded projects on questions, conditionals, and clausal embedding.[9]
