Marie-Christine de Montbrial, born Balling, October 8, 1949, is an author, a professor at the Institute for Higher Studies in the Arts,[1] a French film producer and the president of StarDance Pictures.

Biography[edit]

She is the daughter of Charles Balling, polytechnician,[2][not in citation given][3][not in citation given] and the granddaughter of Jules Aubrun, polytechnician.[4][not in citation given]

In 1967, she married Thierry de Montbrial, with whom she had two children: the lawyer Thibault de Montbrial and Alexandra de Montbrial Pilleux.

She began her career at the PEN Club, with Pierre Emmanuel, of the French Academy, and president of the Association of Writers. She met Daniel Toscan du Plantier, new general manager of Gaumont, in Los Angeles in November 1976, during the Gala of the Union of artists who hired her from 1978 to 1985, as executive assistant then responsible for the acquisition of films, in Paris with Denis Château. They then founded Gepro Cinema in 1985.

In 1984, Guy Debord revealed the conversation, essential according to him, between Francis Ryck and Marie-Christine de Montbrial, concerning the assassination of Gérard Lebovici and the role of Paul Barril in charge of the anti-terrorist unit under the presidency of François Mitterrand.[5] On January 28, 1986, Debord decided not to see her again on the pretext[6] of contacts that she allegedly kept with Ryck.[7] She planned to help Debord market his war game: Kriegspiel, (A Game of War).[8]

From 1987 to 2004, she directed Radio Days, a music publishing company, directed by Chantal Lam (Artédis). In 1990, she was elected to the steering committee of the trade union chamber of producers and exporters of French films, chaired by Alain Poiré, then from 1992 to 1995, to the creation assistance commissions of the Procirep. From 1993 to 1998, she was a member of the French audiovisual committee chaired by Senator Jean Cluzel, of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, of the selection committee for the prize awarded by this committee with Henri Pigeat, former president of the AFP then associate of Euromax in London and member of Large Format Cinema Association in Los Angeles.[9][unreliable source?]
