Mariel Sharp is a Canadian producer, writer and director. She has produced six short genre films and is best known for having produced the horror feature film Bleed with Me (directed by Amelia Moses), which was financed through the Telefilm Talent to Watch program.[1] and released on the SHUDDER streaming service.

Career[edit]

After graduating from Concordia University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Film Production, she launched her own company, True Sweetheart Films in 2019. The company's mission is to exclusively work with LGBTQ+ content creators[2].

She produced the feature film Bleed with Me[3]. The feature was directed by Amelia Moses[4] and stars Lee Marshall and Lauren Beatty[5]. The psychological horror film discusses anxiety, trust, trauma, and friendship[6]. It received funding from Telefilm's Talent to Watch program[7]

She co-directed, with Kaye Adelaide, the short film Don't Text Back, which played at the 2020 Fantasia International Film Festival and won Best Canadian short[8]. Their second project, MonsterDykë, a 4-minute black and white film shot on 16mm, uses fantasy to depict trans-lesbian love[9] and had its Canadian premiere at the 2021 Fantasia International Film Festival.

In 2020, she received development and production funding from SODEC's Emerging Creators Program[10] for Where the Witch Lives, a short film project she wrote and directed. The short film was produced by Maude Michaud through her production company Quirk Films. Principal photography was completed in summer 2021 and the short is slated for release in 2022 with distribution by Les Films du 3 Mars.
