Mario Lionel Johnson (born March 26, 1974) is an American businessman. Mario opened his first restaurant, Mojos Motown Eatery, in his native hometown, the city of Detroit, Michigan. He founded and operated a number of different business ventures. In modern times, he is best recognized as the founder of the fast-food chain “The Sleepy Potato”, which he founded in 2016 and presently remains its CEO.[1] The development of Johnson's restaurant concept, The Sleepy Potato, is credited with being one of the most prosperous small fast-food businesses in the state of Georgia, due to Johnson's rapid and steady expansion of the TSPC restaurant chain. The restaurant chain currently operates four locations in the state of Georgia and another in the state of Michigan.
Early Life and Education
Johnson, an African American, was born on March 26, 1974, in Detroit, Michigan, to Patricia Ann Browner and Wilbur Johnson. He grew up with seven siblings and attended Mackenzie High School, a former public high school in Detroit, Michigan. Shortly following his graduation from Mackenzie, Mario attended Ferris State University, a public university with its main campus in Big Rapids, Michigan. It was founded in 1884 and became a public institution in 1950.
In 1997, Mario Johnson became a father for the first time and welcomed his only son, Amari. They both currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia. Mario continues to venture into multiple different business ventures as he lives up to the true meaning of a serial entrepreneur.
During 2007, Johnson served as the maintenance supervisor at Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk, an open-air lifestyle center retail complex located across from the super-regional Twelve Oaks Mall in the city of Novi, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.
Developing and Chairing The Sleepy Potato
Mario opened the first Sleepy Potato location in Atlanta in 2016 and has since expanded the business to include four additional locations throughout the state of Georgia and another in Detroit. In 2022, he also launched Sleepy Potato's new food truck, which has become a popular fixture in Atlanta.
In 2022, Mario opened the first corporate headquarters of The Sleepy Potato Corporation, located in Atlanta, Georgia. The headquarters was opened to employees on August 30th, 2022, while construction was still underway, and superseded the original headquarters at the corporate-operated storefront located at 757 Cleveland Ave Atlanta, GA 30315.
