Mario Zanasi
Mario Zanasi (January 8, 1927 – March 19, 2000) was an Italian baritone.
Mario Zanasi was born in Bologna, Italy and studied for six years at the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna and later at the Opera School of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
He made his debut in Florence in 1953 as Monterone in Rigoletto. He then appeared in many Italian opera houses in Italy as well as in Portugal, France, Belgium and Germany. The year 1958 saw his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He later appeared in Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago as well as Vienna, Zurich, Edinburgh, etc.
He can be heard in various live recordings notably La Traviata next to Maria Callas and Cesare Valletti, Beatrice di Tenda with Leyla Gencer and Maria di Rohan with Virginia Zeani. He can also be heard and seen on DVD in Lucia di Lammermoor with Renata Scotto and Carlo Bergonzi and in Un ballo in maschera with Antonietta Stella and Carlo Bergonzi again.
