Marion Deering McCormick, the former Mrs. Chauncey McCormick (1886 – 1965)[1] was an American heiress, philanthropist, and collector. She was the wife of Chauncey McCormick, and the daughter of James Deering, thus making her a member of both the McCormick family, and the Deering family.[2]
Deering McCormick was one of the richest people in the world in 1957, with a net worth between 100 and 200 million dollars.[3]
Philanthropy
She and the Deering family donated more than 10 million dollars to Northwestern University, of which she served as a trustee. Deering McCormick served as chairwoman of the Illinois Children's Home and Aid Society.[4]
Cattle breeding
Deering McCormick developed the Guernsey Herd One, at her farm, St. James Farm, in Naperville.[4]
Personal life and death
Marion Deering married Chauncey McCormick in 1914; he died in 1954.[4]
Marion and Chauncey had three children, Charles Deering McCormick, Brooks McCormick, and Roger McCormick.[4]
Deering McCormick died at St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago, on January 13, 1965, at the age of 73.[4]
