Mark Cuban Companies is a venture capital firm founded by Mark Cuban and headquartered in Dallas, Texas. To date, Cuban has invested in over 200 companies[1] spanning various industries.
The first business he invested in that he did not found himself was the Dallas Mavericks[2]. In January of 2000, he paid $280 million to acquire the team[3]. Under his ownership, the Mavericks increased their revenue 250% in 3 years[4], and in 2011, the team won their first NBA championship[5].
Much of Cuban's diverse portfolio today originates from his involvement with ABC's Shark Tank, which he joined in 2011[6]. Through the show, Cuban has invested more than $22 million[7] in small businesses, many of which are female or minority led or founded by military veterans[8]. On The Problem with Jon Stewart podcast, Cuban said that he "likes to invest where people aren't looking[9]."
Outside of Shark Tank, Cuban focuses on investing in companies utilizing blockchain technology[10]. In fact, he told Jon Stewart on The Problem with Jon Stewart podcast that 80% of his investments not on Shark Tank are related to cryptocurrencies[11].
Cuban's most recent notable investment as of January 2022 is the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, a direct to consumer pharmacy that aims to reduce prescription drug prices[12].
