From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

McBride-Wright was born in 1988 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He schooled in Scotland in his formative years and attended college in London. Once he graduated with a doctoral degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College London, Mark began his career as an engineer. McBride-Wright founded both InterEngineering and EqualEngineers; both organisations are aimed towards combating discrimination in STEM-related jobs.[1]. McBride-Wright currently works full-time as the managing director of EqualEngineers.

Education[edit]

In his formative years, Mark attended both primary and secondary school in Edinburgh.

McBride-Wright completed his undergraduate degree in Imperial College London, attaining a degree in Chemical Engineering, MEng (2005 to 2009). As an undergraduate, he engaged with the chemical engineering society. After attaining his undergraduate degree, he went on to pursue a PhD. from Imperial College London (2009 to 2013) based in the Qatar Carbonates and Carbon Storage Research Centre (QCCSRC)[2].

His PhD. research focused on the viscosity and density measurements of mixtures of CO2, brine and hydrocarbons over varying temperature and pressure using experimental techniques. In conjunction with his PhD., he also served as a research analyst for Imperial College across a variety of sectors which involved the support of on-going commercial intelligence operations.

Mark also served as a committee member representing the London and South-East group in the Institution of Chemical Engineers. Here, he worked to increase engagement within IChemE through its Young Member Group. He also worked within the “Diversity and Inclusion” working group working to collect data in order to improve diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

Career[edit]

Upon attaining his PhD. McBride-Wright began working as safety engineer and specialist at Granherne[3] and KBR respectively (2013 to 2017). He then began working in Radius Business Ltd. as the head of business development, he was based in London during this time.

McBride-Wright Ltd (April 2017 – December 2017)

Mark established McBride-Wright Ltd. in 2017 with the explicit purpose of providing consultation, training and strategy insight to independent third parties on how diversity and inclusion may be used in business in order to improve individual and team-wide efficiency and performance[4]

InterEngineering (December 2017 – Present)

In 2017, Mark co-founded and currently chairs InterEngineering which is a vehicle for the promotion of LGBT inclusion in engineering. To achieve its goals, a network of professionals has been created in order to notify and connect LGBT+ engineers with one another in order to give them a competitive edge in the job application process.

At InterEngineering, McBride-Wright has brought professional engineering institutes and companies together to address the issue of LGBT+ representation in the engineering workplace. Through standing connections with the UK Government, Engineering Council and numerous other professional bodies, InterEngineering aims to improve LGBT inclusion in STEM and STEM related industries. InterEngineering currently connects 1,000 LGBT engineers and is led by a team of 16 volunteers.

EqualEngineers (July 2017 – Present)

McBride-Wright is also the founder and current managing director for EqualEngineers [5] which began operations in July of 2017. Once McBride-Wright had established InterEngineering, he also set up a new platform for STEM workers who identify as ethnic minorities, people coming from underprivileged backgrounds and those living with disabilities[6]. EqualEngineers offers a networking platform that also organises: a job-hunting platform, apprenticeship fairs, graduate fairs, training courses and consulting.

Royal Academy of Engineering (Sep 2017 – Dec 2017)

Here, Mark worked as a diversity and inclusion consultant. His role was to support the diversity and inclusion team with a number of tasks such as: providing input and advice on how diversity and inclusion strategy should be implemented, inclusive recruitment and also aiding in the deliverance of specific outputs from employer engagement programmes from action groups.

Awards[edit]

McBride-Wright has been shortlisted and awarded for his work with both InterEngineering and EqualEngineers. In 2015, Mark was ranked #2 in the Financial Times Top 30 Future LGBT Awards;[7] InterEngineering was also highly commended as “Network Team of the Year” at the Inclusive Networks Awards. In 2016, McBride-Wright was awarded “Corporate Rising Star” at the 2016 British LGBT awards[8] and InterEngineering was also shortlisted for “LGBT Community Organisation of the Year” at the UK’s National Diversity Awards.
