Mark D. Petersen is an American geologist. He is the chief of the National Seismic Modeling Project, an arm of the United States Geological Survey which is concerned with studying and forecasting the effects of human activity (such as fracking) on earthquake activity, and providing data to support development strategies in earthquake-prone areas.[1]
