Mark Pracht is an actor, writer and stage director mainly working in Chicago, IL..[1]
He was born in Omaha, NE, but raised in Cascade, CO. Attending Manitou Spring High School and earning a Batchelor of Science in Speech and Theatre at University of Nebraska at Kearney in December 1995.
Acting
Stage
Having been active in Chicago since 2001, he has appeared in productions with many theatre companies. He was a member of Stage Left Theatre and served as the Artistic Director of Brown Couch Theatre Company. He had an early triumph portraying Randall P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with Open Eye Productions in 2007.[2] Currently, he is a Artistic Associate with Chicago's City Lit Theatre[3].

Playwighting
He is best known for The Four-Color Plays, exploring the history of the comic book industry. The plays premiered at City Lit Theatre yearly from 2022 to 2024. The scripts have been published by Sordelet Ink[10].
- The Mark of Kane[11] - Exploring the relationship between Bob Kane, Bill Finger and the creation of Batman. 2022 Premiere.
- The Innocence of Seduction[12] - Dramatizing the fall of EC Comics, Frederic Wertham, Bill Gaines, Matt Baker, Janice Valleau and the rise of The Comics Code Authority. 2023 Premiere (Pracht also directed).
- The House of Ideas[13] - The emotionally fraught collaboration between Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and the development of Marvel Comics. 2024 Premiere.
In 2026, City Lit Theatre produced his adaptation of Jack Schaefer's western novel, Shane[14] via arrangement with the Schaefer Estate and Don Cognon and Associates[15]. Pracht also directed the production.[16]
