Mark Sabre

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Mark Sabre (also known as Sabre of London and Vise) is a T.V. series created by the Danzinger brothers that ran for five seasons on A.B.C. American and I.T.V. In England. It was the Danzinger's greatest hit. There was an earlier T.V. and radio series called Mark Sabre, but this character was played by Tom Conway in America, so I believe the identical name is just a coincidence.

Synopsis

Mark Sabre was a private detective living and working in England. He had lost one arm early in his career [star Donald Gray actually had lost an arm in the war] but got along famously without it. Among the mysteries he solved were frauds, murders for profit, and various smuggling rackets. Often, these cases brought him into contact with London's criminal underworld. Using a series of assistants, he always tracked down the culprit in the end.

Notes

The series originally started out as episodes of a series called Vise, and the character was then launched in his own series that lasted four more seasons. That program was first called Mark Sabre and then Sabre of London. There was a radio program called Mark Sabre in the early 1950s, which is where the name first appeared, and later an American T.V. series that was broadcast on ABC. The later English series shifted to NBC and finished its run there. In England, it finished its run on ITV.
