From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Marker Gene Technologies is a developer of products for the biotechnology and medical industries.

The company was founded at the University of Oregon Riverfront Research Park in Eugene, Oregon by John J. Naleway in 1993 with the idea of creating new enzymatic drug-delivery systems for targeting chemotherapeutics in vivo. The company was incorporated in Oregon in 1996 and became a C-corp. in 1999. Naleway was a former Laboratory Director and Director of Enzyme Substrates Research at Molecular Probes, Inc. where he was influential in developing their panel of live-cell enzyme assays and systems as well as initiating their kit development efforts. Since its inception the company diversified into targeted enzyme assays for intracellular organelle-specific enzyme targets, specifically for monitoring activities in solid tumors or in neurological diseases including the Lysosomal Storage Diseases and Parkinson's Disease. The company also became a worldwide supplier of research reagents and kits for monitoring enzyme and cellular metabolic functions in live cell formats.

Sonas BioPharma, a wholly-owned division of Marker Gene Technologies, Inc. was registered in October of 2018 in Oregon with the purpose of adapting these assays for Drug Discovery and Development by using High-Content (HCS) and High-Throughput (HTS) Screening methods.

In 2020 Abcam plc acquired the entire issued share capital of Marker Gene Technologies, Inc. in a stock transaction. Marker Gene and Sonas BioPharma are now wholly-owned subsidiaries of Abcam, plc.
