Market Partners International

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Market Partners International (MPI) is a consulting firm whose purview is book and content[clarification needed] publishing. The company focuses on strategic planning, market research, content development, multichannel marketing, sales and fulfillment, operations, events, and executive search. The company has two industry blogs; Publishing Trends and Publishing Trendsetter. (see below)

History[edit]

MPI was founded in 1990 by Lorraine Shanley, Constance Sayre, and Robert Riger. Shanley is the President of Market Partners. Co-founding partner, Sayre became Consultant-at-Large in March 2015. Amy Rhodes, the Executive Vice President, joined the company in 2009 and became Partner in 2011. Riger left the company in 1998.

The company was founded to provide consulting services to an industry that was wary of advice from outside the industry, but in need of modernizing. Early clients were either publishers eager to look at best practices in- and outside the industry, or companies that wished to work more closely with publishers, like Amazon, books clubs, licensors like Sesame, and printers. Over the years, the business has evolved as publishers addressed the challenges of digital content. In addition, the executive search segment of MPI’s business has expanded to include publishing divisions of museums, as well as all major trade book houses.

Industry Newsletters[edit]

MPI owns and produces Publishing Trends, a media news website covering the U.S. publishing industry. It began in 1994 as a print-only newsletter, before migrating exclusively online in 2010 when the print rights were sold to another newsletter group. Its target audience is publishing industry professionals worldwide. Regular features include People Round-Up; International Bestsellers; Annual Contact Sheets for agents, scouts, publicist, and others; and Top 5 Publishing Articles of the Week.

Publishing Trendsetter was founded in 2011 as a Publishing Trends spin-off. It aims to share knowledge and ideas about the U.S. publishing industry with young professionals. Regular features include Top 5 Publishing Articles of the Week, Books Jobs Not by the Book (a look at nontraditional publishing jobs), Not New York (about publishing outside of New York), as well as event coverage. The website is probably best known for its creation of the Life Cycle of a Book and Life Cycle of a Book in Translation infographics.
