Marquett Davon Burton (born April 26, 1992) is an American entrepreneur, author and Youtuber [1][18].

Early Life and Education[edit]
Marquett Davon Burton was born to Jeffrey Leadbetter and Kim Burton in San Diego, California. He was raised in Pasadena.[1], California where he tested out of high school at age 16. Marquett continued on to complete his bachelor's in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. At UC Berkeley Marquett was a George A. Miller Scholar as well as a Ronald E. McNair Scholar[2].
Following his bachelors, Marquett joined Teach For America’s Baltimore corp. He earned a master's degree from The John Hopkins University while teaching full time in one of Baltimore’s worst public schools. In 2011, Burton was awarded a Baltimore City Mayoral Fellowship under Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. In 2017 The Johns Hopkins University graduation, Burton was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of The Johns Hopkins University[3]
In 2011, Burton became a Site Director at the John Hopkins's medical institutions. He was later recruited to Everfi, a leading technology company in the education industry.
Career[edit]
In 2009, Marquett began two years of service in AmeriCorps. In the summers of 2010 and 2011, he worked as a School Operations Manager with Teach for America training new teachers.
In 2011, as a Baltimore Mayoral Fellow he acted as the liaison between the CEO of Baltimore City Schools and the Mayor’s Office.[9]
In 2012 Burton founded his first technology company, HobbyBuddy, a platform where individuals and couples could connect with people to enjoy a hobby or activity.
In January 2012, Burton became the Pacific Northwest Manager at Everfi, where he engaged in executive level business development with banks and fortune 500 companies.
In 2014, Marquett Davon Burton invented the world's first effortless attendance technology, called the Fletch App. With about half of America's college students dropping out, Burton launched the Fletch App to reduce college dropout rates[4][5]. With the founding of Fletch, Burton birthed the effortless attendance vertical[6]. As the chief executive officer, Burton quickly expanded to Seoul after securing the financial backing from the Government of South Korea[7]. Burton opened offices in Chicago, Petoskey, South Korea, Puerto Rico[8], Cincinnati, Springfield, St. Louis, and Erie.[9]
In 2015, Marquett landed in Forbes Magazine Burton with the launch of the WiNot app, which empowered those in apartments to monetize their wifi by sharing it with their neighbors. Burton and his technology were featured in a Forbes article[10]. Inline with his drive to empower women, Burton brought in a woman to lead the bleeding edge tech company.
In 2019, Burton co-developed MyKee, a GPS and bluetooth based real-time location technology with Seth Kitchen[11].
In August 2020, he launched his best selling book The Black Box, covering his journey to success. The Black Box went #1 in Teen & Young Adult Biography Books as well as Boys & Men Issues.
Social Contributions[edit]
In 2011, Burton founded 5 Fingers, a non profit, aimed at teaching boys critical thinking, conflict resolution, and fitness. He also created the Healthy Minds & Bodies program, providing students with a daily workout to improve their health.
In 2015, Burton volunteered as a speaker in the Irish Impact Social Entrepreneurship Conference.
In 2018, Burton was honored at the Global Good Fund’s annual gala for his work and efforts impacting global education.
