Marsblade is a Swedish company that offers innovative hockey and roller hockey products. The company is headquartered in Östersund, Sweden.[1]

The company was founded in 2011 and launched its first product, the Marsblade Roller Frame, in 2013. Marsblade offers inline and hockey skates.[2]

History

Per Mårs was an up-and-coming hockey player, drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2001.[3] Due to a lower back injury, Per started experimenting with balance training. Out of this grew the idea to combine the balance training with inline skating, which would mimic the feeling of being on the ice while engaging stabilizing muscles.[4]

The first prototype of the Marsblade roller frame was made in 2009. Some of the first NHL players to implement the Marsblade O1 in their off-ice training were Daniel and Henrik Sedin, and Mikael Backlund, back in 2011.[5]

In July 2016, the company's second product, the I1 on-ice holder was introduced.[6] Two years later, the I1 was introduced to the NHL as Red Wings Niklas Kronwall used them for the 18/19 season.[7]

By the beginning of 2020, due to limited access to ice rinks, more NHL players were starting to use the Marsblade products. Amongst them, Connor McDavid, Evgeni Malkin, Auston Matthews, Roman Josi and Aleksander Barkov.[8]
