Martin Faulks
Martin Faulks (/ˈmɑɹtɪnˈfɔks/; born 21 December 1977) in Norwich) is an English best-selling author, publisher, meditation master, mnemonist, martial artist, and prominent Freemason.
Early life
Born in Norwich on 21 December 1977, Martin grew up and attended school in Norwich. He took a keen interest in the martial arts from a young age, gaining a high level of discipline and self-awareness.
Martial arts
In 1982, when Martin was only 5 years old, he began training in Hapkido. Later he took up the Korean martial art of Kuk Sool Won and went on to gain his first black belt and win two gold medals in the UK National Kuk Sool Won Championships.[1] He took up fencing as a young man and went on to gain a third-level certification and is a former Norfolk fencing champion.
He has a black belt in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu which has been confirmed by martial arts expert Simon Yeo. It is known that the Noguchi Sensei gave him his black belt because of his supreme effort rather than just his skill. He has a blue belt in To-Shin Do.
He is well trained in the spiritual disciplines of China, namely Tai Chi, Meditation, Qi Gong, and the legendary form of Yi Jin Jing.
Martin has traveled and trained the world with some legendary martial art masters such as Grand Master Masaaki Hatsumi, Bo O Mander, Noguchi Sensei, Stephen K. Hayes (the former bodyguard to the Dalai Lama), and Michael Pearce. He has lived and spent time with the Yamabushi monks of Japan, inducting himself fully in their way of life during the time he spent with them.
Publishing
Martin is the current general manager of Lewis Masonic,[2] the world's largest and oldest Masonic publisher. Lewis Masonic is responsible for publishing the Emulation Ritual which is the most widely used Masonic ritual in the United Kingdom.
Writing
Martin is notable for his numerous articles on Freemasonry and has contributed to various magazines such as The Square, Freemasonry Today, and the Scottish magazine The Ashlar. The foreword of “Turning the Templar Key” by Robert Lomas was written by Martin; to date, the book has been translated into 4 different languages.[3]
Martin released his first book in 2007, “How Many Freemasons does it take to change a lightbulb” [4], with a sequel “The Sign of a Mason” [5] being released in 2008. All profits for the books went to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institute (RMBI) and the Masonic Samaritan Fund.
In 2009, Martin released 3 books: “Becoming the Lotus: How to Achieve the Full Lotus Posture” [6], a book that fully explores the Lotus Posture which is one of the most commonly used postures in meditation, and a wider insight into meditation;
“Butterfly Tai Chi: Energy and Tranquillity in 10 Minutes a Day” [7] is a book about Tai Chi and contains many various Tai Chi movements which enable the student to enhance their Qi flow, which power lies in preventing a variety of illnesses;
His next book, “Gateways to Health: Secrets of Rejuvenation” [8] is based on an ancient regime created by the Buddhist monk, Bodhidharma, who is internationally known to be the founder of Zen Buddhism. The book contains simple yet effective exercises and mediations that aim to enhance one’s life, leading to increased longevity. Bodhidharma gave the same exercises mentioned in the book to the monks of a Shaolin temple so they could be free of illness and even reverse their aging process. One person who practiced the system had their hair change from grey to black within months.
“Becoming a Ninja Warrior: A Quest to Recover the Secret Legacy of Japan’s Most Secret Warriors” [9] was released in 2010.
“The Masonic Detective” was released in 2012 [10].
In 2013 Martin released "The Zen Diet Revolution: The Mindful Path to Permanent Weight Loss"[11], a book which focuses on small changes in diets where one can see a positive evolution in their behaviour, bringing vitality, harmony and well-being.
Martin released two of his most prominent books to date in 2015 titled “Faulks, M., 2015. The Emerald Tablet: A Commentary on The True Path of an Adept. 1st ed. London: Falcon Book Publishing.”. In his book The Emerald Tablet, Martin analyses the underlying Hermetic principles part of the alchemical philosophy behind the Emerald Tablet and explains how one can use and apply these principles to reach a higher level of consciousness and enlightenment.
"Shugendo: The Way of the Mountain Monks" was Martin's second book that he released in 2015 and one of his rarest. The book focuses on the way of life of the Yamabushi monks of the Japanese mountains, with a foreword written by Stephen K. Hayes.
The third book he released in 2015 is "White Soul Mirror" [12]. The book is specifically designed to guide and assist those following Franz Bardon's system of Hermetics and is a follow up of his earlier book "Black Soul Mirror".
In 2017, Martin released a book titled “Enlightened Living” [13]. The book contains many powerful techniques, secrets, and lessons which illustrates how enlightenment is a way of life and not just something that is found in certain spiritual practices. Through reaching this higher level of consciousness individuals are given the best chance of reaching their true potential.
"Adepthood: Complete Success On All Levels" [14] was released in 2018. In the book, Martin deeply explores the concept of Eudaimonia which is when a person reaches true happiness and flourishes on all levels. The book brings ancient wisdom into a digestible form where one can apply the concept of Eudaimonia to all aspects of their life and helps the student reach their destination with a better sense of effectiveness, efficiency, and clarity.
One of his most renowned pieces of work to date is “A Mosaic Palace Freemasonry and the Art of Memory” [15] which was released in 2018. In the book, Martin explores Freemasonry, ancient memory techniques, and their esoteric relation to Masonic ritual thus explaining how individuals have the ability to create what is known as a "Memory Palace" and transform their lives for the greater good.
His latest piece of work is called "The Hermetic Art of Memory" [16] which contains two crucial and important manuals written by the Scottish apprentice in the sixteenth century Giordano Bruno which are known as "The Shadow of Reason and Judgement" (1583) and "Thamus - The Virtue of Memory" (1597). The book explores how during the Renaissance the phrase Art of Memory related to a set of specific memory disciples and techniques that evolved from classical Greek mnemonics. Masters of this form of art were believed to be the holder of secret esoteric knowledge that originated in ancient Egypt.
Freemasonry
Martin has always had a strong fascination with history and philosophy, and after reading books like "Turning the Hiram Key"[17] subsequently led him to learn more about Freemasonry, and eventually he decided to join and was initiated in Burlington Lodge No. 96 in December 2001[18]. He was raised to the Third Degree in 2003 and became Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 2009. He remains an active member of Burlington Lodge to this day, having been the Assistant Director of Ceremonies for three years and Charity Steward for four. Burlington Lodge is one of the most ancient in England and was the first to have an Inner Guard. Burlington is also known for being one of the two lodges known for founding the Emulation Lodge of Improvement, subsequently being the founder of Emulation Ritual, which is the most widely used form of Masonic Craft Ritual used in the United Kingdom to this day[19]. He was also a member of Cabbell Lodge No. 807 in Norwich where he held the position of Master in 2008[20] however due to restrictive time constraints, he retired a year later. He is one of the Past Masters of Canonbury Tower Lodge, which has regular meetings in Canonbury Tower in Islington, London. Canonbury Tower Lodge is the former lodge of Francis Bacon. Martin also has a keen interest in Rosicrucianism. He is also a member of the Quatuor Coronati Lodge Correspondence Circle (QCCC)[21]. Martin has also received London Grand Rank from the United Grand Lodge of England.[22]
Franz Bardon
Martin is notable for his extensive research and study of Franz Bardon[23]. His books "White Soul Mirror" and "Black Soul Mirror" were written to assist students in studying Franz Bardon's most notable work "Initiation into Hermetics". Martin is one of his few students alive today that aims to bring his work, most notably “Initiation into Hermetics”, to a wider audience. He gives talks about his work in his lectures and publishes informative videos about Franz Bardon's work on his YouTube channel.
Film and TV
Martin produced the film “Evil Never Dies” starring notable English actor P. H. Moriarty who is known for “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Jaws 3-D”.
