Martin Lester is a British computer scientist and university lecturer, known for his work in programming languages and information security, and for representing the United Kingdom in international riichi mahjong competitions, in which he has shown strong attacking play.
Early life and education
Lester studied computer science at the University of Cambridge, where he completed his undergraduate degree. He later pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, earning both a master's degree and a doctorate. His doctoral research focused on static program analysis and security in programming languages.
Academic career
Lester is a lecturer in computer science at the University of Reading. His research interests include program analysis, information flow security, and the semantics of programming languages.[1]
He has contributed to teaching in areas such as compilers, programming language theory, and cybersecurity, and has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
Mahjong career
Lester is also a competitive player of mahjong, particularly the Japanese riichi variant. He has represented the United Kingdom in international competitions, including the World Riichi Championship.[2]
