Martina Dimoska is a Macedonian published and awarded researcher, analog astronaut, innovator and engineer, space entrepreneur, and internationally recognized pioneer for space exploration. She is the first Macedonian and the first female Balkan analog astronaut, having served on multiple analog missions, including as Science Officer on the NASA-CSA-supported UND ILMAH 14.[1] Crew Engineer and Outreach Lead on ESA BIC-supported APICES (alongside ESA astronaut reservist Ales Svoboda), Mission Commander of the SELENE and TERRA NOVA missions at LunAres.[2] She is the first sole Senior Ambassador certified in Suborbital Space Flight by the NASTAR Center[3].
Dimoska is the founder and president of the International Space Alliance (ISA), a nonprofit bridging space agencies, academia, and industry. ISA is active in both Europe and the U.S., and has built capacity for novel space ecosystems through her three pillars: OrbitWorks, Lunar Labs, and Solar Studios. Martina, individually and later through ISA, secured NASA Space Act Agreements to host the NASA Space Apps Challenges of Mountain View and Cleveland in NASA Ames and NASA Glenn Research Centers.[4]
She is a National Point of Contact for North Macedonia at the Space Generation Advisory Council[5] (2023–2030) and was selected by the Office of the President of Macedonia to attend the St. Gallen Symposium as a future global leader[6]. She is also an alumna and Innovation Committee Coordinator of the International School of Young Leaders (ISLAA)[7]. Aside from being a core IAF space researcher, Martina serves on one of the International Astronautical Federation's technical and administrative committees: Committee on Connecting Emerging Space ecoSystems (ACCESS) Europe Sub-committee (2024-2027).[8]
Early Life and Education
Dimoska is a native of Kicevo, North Macedonia and has cited her upbringing and personal experiences, including caring for a sister with special needs, as formative influences on her resilience and drive[9].
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (2014–2019) on a full scholarship awarded by the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science. During 2016–2017, she attended Kent State University in the United States on a UGRAD exchange scholarship, sponsored by World Learning, U.S. Department of State, and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs American Embassy in North Macedonia, where she studied Aerospace Engineering and made the Honor Roll and Dean's List with a 3.94 GPA. In 2021, she completed the Commercial Space Programs graduate certificate at the Florida Institute of Technology under a scholarship from the Aldrin Family Foundation[10]. She pursued the Master of Space Studies at International Space University in International Space University in France in 2022, where she won the Hypatia Prize - awarded to the student with the best Individual Project bridging Conceptual Research with Technology Design and Implementation in Space as well as the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) - IAC Emerging Space Leader for her work on 3D Solar Printers and Solar Sinters.[11]
Career
Analog Astronaut Missions
Dimoska's involvement in space exploration began through volunteering, analog missions, and her 'ultimate pursuit of truth'.[12][13] She started off by participating as an analog astronaut in the 14th Analog Astronaut Mission in UND Space Studies’ Inflatable Lunar-Mars Analog Astronaut Habitat (UND ILMAH)[14] which included NASA, CSA, UND, and Simon Fraser, where her crew operated ISS-flown experiments like CardioBreath and ExoLab.[15][16] Martina was also a crew member of the ESA-led APICES analog mission by Chill-ICEE and Astroland Interplanetary Agency under Commander ESA Astronaut Ales Svoboda and deputy-commander and BioOrbit Founder and CEO Katie King.[17] Martina also served as a Commander of the ESA-supported Lunares Space – LunArese Research Station – Analog Astronaut Mission SELENE that took place from the 26th of August to 8th of September 2023.[18][19]
In June 2025, she served as commander of the TERRA NOVA Analog Astronaut Mission at the Lunares Space – LunArese Research Station in Poland[2]. This high-fidelity simulation mirrored the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station and was conducted in partnership with ESA, NASA and the Polish Space Agency, LunAres, and Axiom, focusing on ISS flown experiments including psychological well-being and medical autonomy in isolated environments such as AstroMentalHealth.[20][21]
She has participated in and led high-fidelity simulated space missions with supporting agencies including NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Polish Space Agency (POLSA).[22] Her pioneering role earned her the distinction of being the first Balkan woman to serve as an analog astronaut, a fact highlighted by Voice of America (VOA) and Bloomberg Adria.[23][24]
Entrepreneurship and International Space Alliance
Dimoska is the founder & president of the International Space Alliance (ISA), an organization aimed at fostering international collaboration in space and supporting space-related innovation internationally, yet headquartered in both Europe and the Bay Area, Silicon Valley, California. The organization was awarded a recognition by Ambassador Killian Wahl of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for its contributions to building new bridges through space.[25] She was also the instrumental first founding member in the establishment of the first Civic Space Agency of Macedonia in 2025[26].
Her entrepreneurial insights on leveraging analog missions for business opportunities in the Western Balkans were published in Forbes.[27]
Science Communication and Public Advocacy
Martina Dimoska is a prominent advocate for women and girls in STEM. She has been a vocal participant in United Nations initiatives, including the UN Women's "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence" campaign and the EmpowerWomen "BreakTheGlass" initiative.[28][29] She has also been featured in the STREAM IT project, an EU-funded initiative to promote gender-inclusive STEM education, where she was spotlighted as a key role model.[30][31]
She has delivered multiple TEDx talks on topics including breaking the status quo, thriving in the space sector from the Balkans, and the concept of retrocausality.[32][33][34] Her advocacy work extends to national campaigns such as Makpetrol's "Raise Your Voice Against Peer Violence" and she is featured in the encyclopedic book "My Name Is Courage," which highlights 50 inspiring Macedonian women that impacted Balkan history.[35][36][37] Martina Dimoska was also a contributor of the anthology, Life Beyond Us which depicts the timeless quest for finding alien life in 27 science fiction stories that are backed up by 27 science essays, one of which is Dimoska's "The Unveiled Possibilities of Biomaterials in Space" that further explained Julia E. Czerneda's "Third Life" science fiction in the anthology.[38][39]
Media and Public Speaking
Dimoska is a frequent media commentator and speaker on space and technology. Her story has been covered by National Geographic Polska, Space.com, Ohio Tech News, and Huffington Post.[40][41] She has been a guest on national television shows in North Macedonia, including TV Sitel, Alfa TV, and Telma TV, and has been featured on international podcasts such as N2K's T-Minus Space Daily and EVONA's Women in STEM podcast.[42][43][44] In 2025, she was recognized as one of the Top 20 LinkedIn Influencers in North Macedonia by the analytics platform Favikon.[45] Martina Dimoska is an All American Speaker.[46]
NASA Space Apps Challenge
Martina won 1st place at the NASA Space Apps Challenge Skopje as a participant in 2014, and later joined the Skopje location as a mentor. She served as a Local Lead for the NASA Space Apps Challenge in Cleveland, Ohio held at NASA Glenn Research Center and NASA Space Apps Challenge Mountain View, Bay Area, Silicon Valley, California, held at NASA Ames Research Center, the only two locations in the world hosted at NASA Research Facilities. She was the only local lead and first international peer that had a NASA Space Act Agreement with NASA Centers to make this happen.[47] In this role, she serves as a lead with the winning teams being received by NASA Leadership and the Presidents of North Macedonia.[48] She also helped establish the first NASA Space Apps hub in Strumica and was featured in an official "Advice for Participants" video by the Global Organizing Team.[49]

Personal life
Martina Dimoska is currently based in the Bay Area, Silicon Valley, California from her award of the EB1-A “Extraordinary Ability” Green Card from the United States. She is active in STEM education and outreach through her handle @astro_smarta[77] across social media platforms. She holds dual engagement with international space organizations and is fluent in English and Macedonian. Currently, Martina works as a Human Spaceflight Consultant at Blue Abyss where she leads mission operations design and astronaut training frameworks for international commercial and research missions, collaborating with key partners including Voyager Space, Axiom Space, NASA Glenn, and LEAP Next Frontier.
