Maruku is one of 29 wards within the Bukoba Rural District. The Bukoba Rural District is itself one of eight districts within the Kagera Region of Tanzania in East Africa. According to its 2012 Census data, Maruku has a population of 9,202.[1]. It is home to the Maruku Research Center, Maruku Coffee Center (TACRI), and an Agricultural College[2]. Maruku Ward can be further divided into the four villages of Butairuka, Bwizanduru, Kyansozi, and Maruku. A newly built Health Centre has attracted national media attention as a model of community-led development[3][4][5]
